Special Education Science Teacher
The Reece School is seeking Special Education Teacher for a Science Classroom, who are creative and dedicated professionals with relevant classroom experience.
Description
Position is responsible for the academic instruction and safety of children in the 7-12 classroom by preforming the following duties
Writes, organizes, and implements the classroom program
Participates in professional development of teaching assistant including review of lesson plans and data.
Participates actively in the following meetings: room program, staff development, team, parental conferences, supervision with Coordinator and open school night.
Preforms other related duties assigned.
Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on common core standards in science education for grades k-8
Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, direct teaching, demonstrations and independent practice
Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of age, and ability/interest level
Collaborate with homeroom teachers and clinical team to maintain a safe, orderly and supportive classroom. Model expected behaviors and standards.
Communicate with parents regarding student progress when necessary
Set up demonstrations and assist and supervise students while they conduct experiments
Implement STEM and project-based learning activities to further enhance the students’ learning experience
Assist in taking care of the school pet, a bearded dragon named Alpha
Coordinate with teaching assistant and supervisor to administer state science exam in June
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university.
New York State (NYS) certification as a special education teacher in science 7-12.
Previous experience in special education or previous classroom experience required.
The ability to communicated and interact effectively with students, staff and administrators.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong organization and planning skills needed.
