BROAD FUNCTION
The Center and Early Middle College Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and strategic planning of the Hillsdale Early Middle College (HCEMC) program and associated center. The coordinator will work closely with the Director, high school partners, community partners, faculty, staff, and students to ensure success. The coordinator will facilitate student enrollment, support academic achievement, and coordinate activities that promote a seamless transition from high school to college. Additional responsibilities include all aspects of running the center, including coordination of events, security, reporting maintenance and cleaning issues and all issues related to keeping the center operating at optimum capacity. This position also provides academic and admissions advising functions and coordination of events and duties at Jackson College, Hillsdale Center. Represent the College as an information resource at public and on-campus (extension center) recruitment and retention-centered events, both on and off campus. At times, this position is required to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as well as travel.
Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1) Student Advising, Outreach, Support, & Engagement:
Advise primarily HCEMC students, but may also assist with new, current, and prospective students, regarding course registration, program completion, admissions, financial aid, career services, occupational information, transfer options, and other related topics
Monitor student retention and academic progress toward goals and credential completion to ensure success. Utilizing early alerts and retention intervention practices.
Coordinate and execute student activities, events, and projects designed to create an on-going atmosphere of care, concern and goal attainment for students. Examples include but are not limited to HCEMC orientation, Success Workshops, Welcome Week, Student Appreciation Week, Game Night.
Assist Director with development of innovative and resourceful recruiting concepts for identified target markets.
In conjunction with the Director, and admissions department execute and participate in recruitment activities in the community and surrounding areas.
In accordance with FERPA, maintain complete confidentiality of student records and other information of confidential nature.
2) Center Operations:
Collaboratively with the Director oversee all aspects related to running the center including security, scheduling, maintenance and other issues related to the operations of the building.
Serve as a cross-functional employee and oversee office operations at the Center to ensure stakeholder needs are met. This may include, but is not limited to answering phones, record keeping, information management coordinating break and leave times with teammates to ensure Center operations remain functional.
Oversee the training of and work-study employee(s) and assists in training of Hillsdale Center employees.
Collaborate with the Director of Jackson College Hillsdale to create the Hillsdale Center annual academic schedule with involvement from Student Success Navigators, department chairs and the scheduling department, utilizing historical course data to meet student’s needs.
3) Community & Institutional Relations:
Represent Jackson College, Hillsdale Center as the Early Middle College/dual-enrollment liaison to high schools within our service area, and as the main information resource at public and on-campus recruitment and retention-centered events within Hillsdale County.
Coordinate with local high schools, vocational training centers, and community organizations to conduct informative recruitment sessions and workshops
Collaboratively serve as the Hillsdale Center liaison with the Director and other center staff on various community committees. Broadening institutional involvement within the community
In concert with the Director build collaborative relationships that lead to innovative partnerships with community educational leaders. In an effort to develop new programming at the Hillsdale Center.
Maintain frequent contact with internal departments as well as other stakeholders, including, but not limited to parents, high schools, Michigan Works, local employers, and state and federal agencies
4) Data Management & Reporting:
Work collaboratively with high school counselors, institutional research and effectiveness department, and Director to ensure HCEMC data is reported to appropriate state offices timely and free of errors
Maintain accurate HCEMC and dual enrollment data related to the Hillsdale Center within the SIS, CRM, and other appropriate college information and database systems.
5) Professional Development & Innovation:
Attend and participate in professional development opportunities to stay up to date on industry trends and practices.
In concert with the Director, identify and execute areas of opportunity to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and stakeholder experience at the Center and HCEMC. Collaborate frequently with internal and external resources, specifically regarding the operations of the HCEMC. Example, connect with other Jackson College Early Middle College administrators to stay up to date on institutional practices surrounding Early Middle College and dual enrollment
Participate in Jackson College strategic planning activities as requested.
6) Additional Responsibilities:
Provide support to the Director of Jackson College Hillsdale
Serve as cross-functional team member
Support the Corrections Education Program (CEP) and may travel with CEP administrators and staff to correctional facilities.
Understand and support the College’s mission, vision, values, and comply with Campus Security Authority (CSA) responsibilities.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position has no direct supervisory responsibilities except for 1-2 student employees.
CONTACTS AND PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
Internal: Frequent contact with registration/records, advising, admissions, financial aid, business office, and information technology staff in information sharing/gathering and problem-solving capacity. Regular contact and collaborative work with other staff, faculty, and administration members.
External: Frequent contact with students and parents, often in stressful situations. Regular
contact with the general public and prospective students in a service providing
capacity. Regular contact with entities such as, but not limited to Hillsdale County educational institutions (High Schools), Michigan Works, state agencies. Some contact may be required with federal agencies.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university.
Two years or more related experience and/or training directly related to Early Middle College and/or dual enrollment populations and/or coordination of an Early Middle College program
Valid Driver’s license
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in office software and technology
Knowledge of:
Presentation methods and techniques
Customer service techniques including excellent in-person, phone, and technology related communication skills
Skills and Abilities
Organize complex and technical information and data.
Speak effectively and confidently in front of small, large, and diverse groups.
Extensive experience with technology, including, but not limited to Microsoft Suites, Google Workspace, Student Information Systems, CRM, and with assigned computers.
Assess situations, identify problems, propose solutions, develop strategies for improvement, demonstrate follow-through, and assume decision-making responsibilities with minimum supervision.
Provide prompt and accurate follow-up to stakeholders
Ability to work in both a team environment and independently
Ability to routinely work over 40-hours
Ability to work remotely as/when needed/approved
Read, interpret, and memorize policies and procedures
Travel and conduct off-campus meetings/visits with students and school districts
Preferred:
Master’s degree
Five years directly working with Early Middle College and/or dual enrollment populations
Experience with state dual enrollment policies, regulations, and reporting (MEMCA, STARR, CEPI, etc.)
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with groups of customers or employees of organizations.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
