Senior Consumer Loan Officer

Job Description OverviewThe Sr. Consumer Loan Officer is a senior-level lending professional responsible for originating, underwriting, and closing complex consumer loan applications. This role requires advanced credit analysis skills, sound judgment, and a strong focus on member service. The position also supports portfolio growth, risk management, and cross-selling initiatives while ensuring compliance with all regulatory and credit union policies.SR. LOAN OFFICER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:Loan Origination & UnderwritingEvaluate, approve, and structure consumer loan applications, including direct auto, unsecured, and other consumer loan productsAnalyze credit reports, income documentation, debt ratios, and collateral to make sound lending decisionsExercise appropriate lending authority while adhering to credit union policies and risk toleranceHandle exceptions, counteroffers, and complex lending scenarios with minimal supervisionMember Service & Relationship BuildingProvide consultative guidance to members regarding loan options, terms, and financial solutionsDeliver a high level of service through timely follow-up and clear communicationIdentify opportunities to cross-sell additional credit union products and servicesPortfolio & Risk ManagementMonitor loan quality and ensure adherence to underwriting standardsAssist in managing delinquency by identifying risk trends and supporting early intervention effortsMaintain thorough and accurate loan documentationOperational EfficiencyProcess a high volume of loan applications efficiently while maintaining accuracyEnsure compliance with all federal regulations (e.g., Reg Z, FCRA, ECOA) and internal policiesStay current on lending guidelines, products, and market trendsCollaboration & LeadershipServe as a resource for junior loan officers and lending staffAssist with training and mentoring team members as neededCollaborate with dealers, branch staff, and other departments to support loan growthOther· Successful and timely completion of all required compliance training.· Special projects and other duties assigned. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONSAdvanced knowledge of credit risk assessment and portfolio performance metrics, preferred· Previous mentoring or leadership experience, preferred · High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in finance, business, or related field preferred· 4–6+ years of consumer lending experience, preferably within a credit union or financial institution· Proven experience with complex underwriting and higher loan authority levels· Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and comfortable meeting growth targets.SKILLS AND ABILITIES:In-depth knowledge of consumer lending regulations and compliance requirementsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to manage high volume and prioritize effectivelyProficiency in loan origination systems and related softwareWork cooperatively with both external and internal customers.Must be able to coordinate multiple and changing priorities while still meeting deadlines.Strong communication skills.Must maintain personal accounts here and elsewhere in good standing in a professional manner.Strong analytical and decision-making skillsSUCCESS MEASURESFast-paced, production-oriented environmentMay require occasional extended hours based on volumeLoan volume and funded loan growthDecision turnaround timeLoan quality (delinquency/charge-off rates)Cross-sell ratioMember satisfaction scoresWORKING CONDITIONS· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.· Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of items weighing up to 20lbs.· Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.· Repetitive motions and extensive keyboarding.EEOE Statement: We are an equal employment opportunity employer.
