Summer School - High School Instructional Coach
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORKThe Summer Academy Instructional Coach provides leadership in supporting high-quality instruction for high school credit recovery courses in English, mathematics, science, and history. The position focuses on improving student achievement through data-driven coaching, instructional support, and collaboration with program staff to ensure students meet course and graduation requirements.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSSupports the implementation of effective, standards-aligned instruction across core content areas (ELA, math, science, and history)Analyzes student performance data to monitor progress toward course completion and credit attainmentConducts instructional observations and provides timely, actionable feedback to teachersCoaches teachers in the use of evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiation, and intervention practicesModels effective instructional practices and supports collaborative lesson planningFacilitates data discussions to guide instructional decision-making and monitor student progressEnsures fidelity of curriculum implementation and alignment to program expectationsMonitors student attendance and engagement; collaborates with staff to address barriers to successCommunicates effectively with program staff and leadership to support program operationsAssists with student supervision during transitions, as neededAttends all required program sessions, professional learning, and data meetingsPerforms other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of high school curriculum, standards, and instructional best practices across core content areasAbility to analyze and use student data to inform instruction and coachingStrong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively support adult learnersAbility to provide constructive feedback and facilitate reflective practiceAbility to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMust hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching licenseEndorsement in Administration and Supervision or Instructional Coaching/Curriculum and Instruction preferredDemonstrated successful experience teaching at the high school level in a core content areaEvidence of improving student academic outcomes, including work with at-risk or credit recovery students preferredExperience in instructional coaching or professional learning facilitation preferredTERMS OF EMPLOYMENTJune 29-July 23, 2026, 8 hours per dayEVALUATIONPerformance evaluation will be conducted using final student performance data (i.e., SOL performance and growth data).
