Civil Project Engineer
Position OverviewWe are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Civil Project Engineer to support the delivery of a large-scale Department of Transportation (DOT) infrastructure project in North Carolina. This role will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and state DOT representatives to ensure successful execution of complex highway and heavy civil construction activities.The ideal candidate has strong field engineering experience on DOT or heavy civil projects, with the ability to manage technical coordination, project controls, and on-site execution support in a fast-paced construction environment.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport project delivery for a major DOT roadway/highway construction project from mobilization through completionAssist Project Manager with scheduling, cost tracking, forecasting, and production reportingReview and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and DOT standardsManage RFIs, submittals, and design clarifications in coordination with design teams and DOT representativesPerform quantity take-offs, earthwork calculations, and material trackingSupport field operations including grading, drainage, utilities, structures, and paving activitiesCoordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure alignment with project schedule and specificationsMonitor construction progress and assist in developing recovery plans when requiredMaintain accurate project documentation including daily reports, inspection records, and as-builtsEnsure compliance with DOT requirements, safety standards, and quality control proceduresParticipate in site walks, inspections, and progress meetings with stakeholdersQualifications and Skills:Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field2–6 years of experience in heavy civil or transportation infrastructure constructionExperience on DOT, highway, roadway, or bridge projects strongly preferredUnderstanding of civil construction means and methods (grading, utilities, drainage, paving, structures)Proficiency with construction documentation and project controlsFamiliarity with DOT specifications and inspection processes (NCDOT experience is a plus)Strong communication and coordination skillsAbility to work in both field and office environments
