Research And Development Engineer
Job Description:Support the development and improvement of new products and processes within fibrous-based manufacturing. This role is split evenly between desk-based technical work and hands-on activities in a production environment.Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport the development of new or improved pigment systems used for casing coloration while ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer requirementsContribute to the design and enhancement of casings and related coating systemsResearch and evaluate alternative manufacturing processes for fibrous casing, including experimentation with new methods, procedures, and equipment not currently in useAssist in the design and optimization of tooling (dies) used in fibrous casing productionReview and analyze competitor or benchmark samples to identify opportunities for product and process improvementProvide technical support to manufacturing teams to resolve production-related challengesCollaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, including suppliers and commercial teams, to address technical issuesDevelop and optimize process conditions, formulations, and color systems to support product development, improve efficiency, reduce cost, and increase yieldQualificationsEducationBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline requiredMaster’s degree preferredExperienceStrong understanding of fibrous casing or similar food/chemical manufacturing processesAbility to work across all levels of an organization, from shop floor operators to senior leadership, providing technical guidance and supportSkillsStrong research and analytical skills to support process and product developmentUnderstanding of core chemical engineering principles; knowledge of polymer chemistry is an advantageExperience in chemical, polymer, or food manufacturing environments preferredBilingual in English and SpanishCompetenciesCommunication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present technical information clearly and listen effectivelyDecision Making: Able to evaluate options, incorporate input from others, and make sound technical decisionsEthics: High level of integrity, accountability, and discretion with confidential informationJob Knowledge: Maintains strong understanding of role requirements and continuously updates technical knowledgeProblem Solving: Able to analyze root causes and resolve complex technical issuesTeamwork: Works collaboratively, respects diverse viewpoints, and contributes to team objectivesWorking ConditionsPrimarily office-based with regular exposure to production and laboratory environmentsOccasional domestic and international travel (up to ~10%) for audits, training, or supplier interactionsMay involve work on the production floor for testing and validation activitiesInteraction with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and customersRequired to follow GMP and EHS standards during plant and audit activitiesHandling of sensitive and confidential technical and business informationRelocationCompany-provided accommodation for the first 3 months of employment to support relocationProvision of a company vehicle for work-related travel and responsibilities during the initial periodPhysical RequirementsAbility to work in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, noise, and odorsAbility to climb stairs and carry light loadsComfortable working in laboratory and production settings
