Aircraft Tool Maker - Macomb OR Lake Orion, MI
Overview:
As a Tool Maker, you will be responsible for the layout, fabrication, assembly, and repair of jigs, fixtures, templates, and related tooling used in the manufacturing of aircraft parts and assemblies. This hands-on position requires strong machining, blueprint reading, and precision measurement skills to deliver high-quality tools that support aerospace production.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Build and repair jigs, fixtures, forms, and templates by following blueprints, sketches, and specifications
Operate cranes, forklifts, and other heavy machinery to move materials and tooling
Read and interpret blueprints and MBD models for tool design and fabrication requirements
Use precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) to ensure accuracy
Set up and operate lathes, mills, grinders, and other shop machinery to shape and finish parts
Work with aluminum, steel, graphite, and other materials
Perform deburring, grinding, and finishing work
Maintain a clean and safe work environment in accordance with safety standards
Document time and progress on all jobs
Collaborate with team members and management to ensure high-quality results
REQUIREMENTS:
5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
5+ years of machining experience (lathes, Bridgeport, surface grinders, etc.)
5+ years of experience using inspection equipment (micrometers, calipers, gauges)
Ability to read and understand blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications
Ability to work independently and complete jobs from start to finish
Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
AEROSPACE BACKGROUND PREFERRED
Must meet ITAR “U.S. Person” requirements (U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident)
PREFERRED:
Experience working in a fast-paced, aerospace or defense environment
Flexibility to work varied shifts, overtime, or weekends as needed
Strong communication and teamwork skills
PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, or climbing may be required
Ability to lift and move up to 35 lbs (occasionally up to 50 lbs)
Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, vibration, and moderate noise
Required PPE: safety eyewear (safety shoes recommended)

Pay: $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
