Project Control Manager

Position SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Project Controls Manager to lead project controls efforts on a large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing design and construction project valued at approximately $50–60 million. This is a long-term opportunity supporting a multi-year capital expansion and modernization program at an active manufacturing campus. Up to 20% travel - reimbursed.This role will serve as the central point of coordination for all project controls activities, providing leadership to a team of schedulers and cost analysts while ensuring seamless integration between schedule, cost, and project execution. The ideal candidate combines strong technical project controls expertise with exceptional leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills in complex capital projects.ResponsibilitiesProject Controls Leadership:Lead and coordinate a project controls team consisting of approximately 5–6 schedulers and cost analystsProvide direction, prioritize work activities, and ensure alignment across project controls functionsReview team deliverables before they are presented to project leadershipdrive accountability and consistency across scheduling and cost management activitiesSchedule Management:Review, analyze, and maintain detailed project schedulesIdentify missing scope, schedule gaps, and potential execution risksEnsure schedules accurately reflect project progress and planned workMonitor schedule performance and identify variances from baselineCollaborate with schedulers to develop recovery plans and corrective actionsCost Management & Integration:Oversee cost reporting and analysis performed by project cost analystsEvaluate the relationship between schedule performance and project costsIntegrate schedule updates with cost impacts to provide a comprehensive view of project healthAssess change orders and their impact on project budget and scheduleProject Baselining & Change Management:Lead project re-baselining efforts resulting from significant scope changesEnsure schedule and cost baselines remain accurate and aligned throughout project executionSupport implementation of project control processes during evolving project conditionsRisk Management:Proactively identify schedule, cost, and scope risksPerform root cause analysis for project variancesDevelop recommendations and mitigation strategies to minimize project impactsMonitor trends and communicate emerging risks to project leadershipStakeholder Communication:Serve as the primary point of contact for all project controls mattersProvide clear, concise updates on project performance to project managers and leadershipTranslate technical schedule and cost information into actionable business insightsSupport project teams by answering questions related to schedule, budget, and project performanceReporting:Prepare and present project controls reports, dashboards, and key performance metricsMaintain project controls documentation and ensure reporting accuracySupport executive reporting and project status reviewsQualificationsRequired Experience:10+ years of experience in Project Controls, Project Management, Cost Engineering, Scheduling, or related disciplines supporting capital construction projectsExperience leading project controls on large engineering, design, or construction projectsStrong background integrating project scheduling and cost managementExperience managing project baselines, forecasting, and change managementDemonstrated ability to lead cross-functional project controls teamsExperience identifying project risks and implementing corrective actionsPreferred Experience:Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, industrial manufacturing, or highly regulated capital projectsLarge EPC, design-build, or engineering consulting environmentsExperience supporting projects through design, procurement, and construction phasesExperience working on active manufacturing site expansions or brownfield projectsTechnical Skills:Expert knowledge of project scheduling methodologiesStrong understanding of project cost controls and forecastingExperience with project controls reporting and performance metricsAbility to evaluate complex schedule and cost impactsProficiency with project controls software such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, and cost management systems is preferredAdvanced Microsoft Excel skillsSoft Skills:Strong leadership and team coordination abilitiesExcellent analytical and critical thinking skillsOutstanding communication and stakeholder management skillsAbility to work independently in a fast-paced project environmentStrong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detailAbility to influence cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority
