TDAS Middle Level Family Advocate

TYPE OF POSITION: Non-Represented Hourly 10-Month Hours may vary based on program needs REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Equity Programs SUPERVISION: None SALARY: $22.50 - $28.50/hr depending on education and experience QUALIFICATIONS: RequiredA.A. Degree or equivalent education and qualifying experienceDemonstrated ability to work effectively with students, families and school personnel in a diverse environmentStrong problem-solving skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple assignments PreferredBachelor's Degree in Education or closely related fieldExperience in a K-12 school setting and familiarity with best practices in youth development, cultural competency and special education KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of school equity program administration; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively in both oral and written forms; ability to work with administrators, teachers and support staff to support inclusive school culture; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, consultants, associates, school officials and the general public. POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Supervisor of Equity Programs and Director of Elementary Education, this position promotes School District 742's mission and core values by assisting administrators, staff, students and families in navigating and resolving cultural obstacles to student access to honors/AP courses at the middle level. Effectively communicates with families, students, and school staff. Assists students and families in accessing TDAS and honors/AP programs and services. Works as a team member with all school staff to improve students' academic performance, achievement, attendance and/or behaviors. Assists Administrators in the resolution of school issues relating to cultural differences or perspectives between school culture and home culture, supporting connection to families to resources in the school and in the community.
