Expert Graphics Engineer
Job Summary:Owls in this role prototype, develop, and release code to bring Owlchemy's ideas to life.Responsibilities:Implement shaders, graphic systems, and visual tools based on direction from Design and Art teams including task ownerAssist with porting to new platforms accounting for best practices based on engine and platform requirementsCreate tools to assist production as neededAssist with optimization, especially of graphics-related issues, utilizing profiling tools and coding best practicesDevelop and test code, fix bugs, and profile to optimize code as directedFollow engineering best practices, development processes, and coding standardsTake ownership of tasks and authored features, ensuring owned features can be maintained and provide technical and design leadership for owned tasksSeek feedback on owned tasks, including via playtests, other Owls and stakeholdersEvaluate new XR hardware and assist with R&D effortsCollaborate with (or act as) Owners to break down large deliverables into more discrete tasking and provide accurate estimates to stakeholdersCollaborate with Owls cross-departmentally to meet task goals and determine code requirementsKeep up to date on the latest in development practices for Unity and XR and ensure distribution of that knowledge throughout teamMentor other Owls on graphics best practices through one to one discussions, coding explanations, code reviews, and documentation creation, etcRequirementsRequired Skills/Abilities:Strong attention to detailStrong, clear and proactive communicator across a variety of disciplines and levelsDeep Unity Programing Expertise (C#, HLSL)Strong understanding of Unity's Scriptable Render Pipeline and Universal Render Pipeline and underlying rendering technologies like Vulkan and OpenGLCross programming expertise (C++, Java, Python, etc.)Deep graphics optimization expertise (Unity Profile, RenderDoc, hardware specifics)Experience with XR platforms, tile-based renderers, and related technologies strongly preferredRequired Education and Experience:High School Diploma or Equivalent 7+ years of games programming experience (with at least 3 years in graphics programming)Good understanding of all other disciplines in game developmentAt least 1 shipped titlePreferred Education and Experience:10+ years of graphics programming experienceAppreciation of puns (or at least the ability to groan at them)Physical Requirements: Owls must be able to use virtual reality headsets but are not expected to own oneSalary Range: $150,000 - $180,000 USD/yearPosition Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, work from home, 40-hours per week position.
