JOB REQUIREMENTS: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include thefollowing. Other duties may be assigned. Implements all aspects of theIndividualized Educational Plan (IEP) process, including but not limitedto, communication with team members, evaluation, reporting, IEP writing,IEP implementation, data collection and progress reporting. Reviews,revises, writes curriculum as per district format. Achieves districteducational goals and objectives by promoting active learning andthinking in the classroom using board-adopted curriculum and otherappropriate learning tools. Develops lesson objectives and/or unitplans, uses instructional materials, provides individualized andsmall-group instruction, and adapts the curriculum when necessary tomeet the needs of each student. Systematically measures studentperformance by means of a variety of assessment tools such asteacher-made tests and standard or alternative assessments to measurelearning. Implements current best practices to promote student learning.Differentiates lesson presentations, class activities, and assessmentsfor students that will meet individual needs, interests and abilities ofeach student. Monitors student academic progress and personal growthtoward stated objectives of instruction. Identifies student needs andcooperates with other professional staff members in assessing andresolving learning issues. Establishes and maintains standards ofstudent behavior to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.Arranges appropriate interventions, if needed. Maintains current recordsof students\' educational progress in class record books, portfolios,electronic mediums, and/or Board-approved forms, and summarizes suchprogress for reporting purposes. Devises written and oral assignmentsand assessments that require analytical and critical thinking as well asfactual knowledge. Communicates with parents through reports,conferences and other means to inform them about the school program andto discuss student progress. Maintains and improves professionalcompetence through staff development activities provided by the districtand self-selected professional growth activities. Participates andcontributes to the planning, evaluation and implementation of schooland/or District programs via faculty meetings, councils, and Districtand school committees. Makes effective use of community resources toenhance the instructional program. Upholds and enforces school rules,administrative regulations, and Board policy. Supports the growth ofinitial and experienced educators through mentoring, collaborativeplanning, coaching, and other methods that foster team success. Developsrules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in a fairand just manner consistent with district policy. Makes provisions forbeing available to students and parents for education related purposesoutside the instructional day, as needed. Serves as a positive rolemodel for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and asresponsible, intelligent human beings. Additionally, helps instill instudents the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democraticvalues. Ability to exercise judgment anddiscretion in the application and interpretation of department policiesand regulations. Good knowledge of current special education t pics andmethodologies. Experience working with students with a wide range ofdisabilities. Ability to create IEPs and collaborate with support staffto create holistic intervention plans. Ability to initiate and utilizerelationships to effect change. Demonstrates empathy toward students andstrives for positive student relationships. Demonstrates the ability tointerpret, support and uphold the standards, ethics and boundaries ofthe education profession. Ability to establish and maintain effectiveworking relationships with students, parents, co-workers, otheragencies, and the public.
