Does related work as required. An employee in this class has a basic knowledge of the routine of a health care facility and is responsible for all tasks assigned, most of which are of a clerical nature. Cooperating with the Director of Medical Records, Unit Secretary Coordinator, and assisting the Charge Nurse in coordinating and monitoring completion of required documentation and related tasks. Position will provide coverage of the units and assure completion of essential duties on all units. Unit Secretary will report to their assigned area upon arrival.Position Responsibilities:Essential Functions:Greets residents, families and visitors, giving direction and assistance.Coordinates charts, completes forms and packs or unpacks possessions of residents on admissions, transfers, and discharge.Answers telephone and intercom.Checks e-mail for unit communication needs.Schedules in-house appointments.Distributes mail.Maintains schedules for resident related care (e.g. Physical Therapy, beautician, podiatry, Resident Care Conferences, etc.)Requests lab work and notifies staff as necessary for completion of physician's orders and verifies return of lab work ordered.Recopies physician's order for drugs and narcotics: (approximately on the 22nd of prior month the Pharmacy sends printout of medication and treatment sheets, then a copy of the physician's order is sent to the Pharmacy.)Prepares and/or maintains and files a variety of records according to procedures and verifies accomplishment of documentation by staff as required. (e.g. Purging active charts, filing partial charts, medication sheets, treatment sheets, ICP documentation, activity forms, Resident Care Conference papers, and setup and maintain the Resident Care Conference schedule and Nursing Summary Schedules).Keeps unit neat and well supplied with necessary forms.Minimum Education and Experience:Experience in medical/office environment preferred. Preferably some training and experience in nursing care with completion of a standard high school course or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability. On-the-job training is provided for required tasks.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Must be 18 years of age. Ability to keep records and follow oral and written direction. Computer experience is helpful.Physical Demands:Ability to stand and be active during an entire work shift.Working Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazardous chemicals, infectious waste, blood and body fluid, diseases and conditions prevalent at the time. Employees may also be subject to emotionally distraught residents, family members, visitors and personnel. The noise level in the work environment is typically minimal to moderate.
