Job DescriptionThe Optimization Engineer II - New Product Development engages in the system model development, design optimization and qualification of new technologies related to domestic potable water heating, space heating hydronic systems, and combination potable and space water heating systems. The position also entails collaboration, advisory, and joint development projects among Rheem Global operating units and/or with outside partners.This position will serve our Water Heating Division, located in Montgomery, AL. Relocation assistance is available.ResponsibilitiesDesign and optimize solutions for new and existing productsEngage in early-stage concept ideation, concept analyses and reductions of concepts to practical prototypes for demonstrations of feasibility. Create computer-based component and system level simulations in the prediction of vapor compression cycle behavior, gas combustion, heat transfer, fluid flow, system performance of water heating, space heating, combinational water heating designs and applications. Devise methods of fabrication, testing, coordination of experiments, evaluating test results in comparisons to predicted outcomes, and prepare research summaries contextually relevant to the business. Develop technology path with high fidelity prototypes that represents critical functionality and carry business case components. Coordinate customer testing and early-stage VOC via agile project management approach. Engage and advise engineering teams on matters of expertise, coaching on analysis tools and methods, and engineering problem solving assistance. Serve as a project engineer on select objectives as assignedQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering3 years of related experience in the heat transfer, mechanical design, modelling, analytics, optimization and validation methodsWorking knowledge of analysis & system development tools (e.g., ANSYS/Fluent, ANSYS/Mechanical, MATLAB, LabView, SolidWorks, EnergyPlus, CoilDesigner, VapCyc, GT Suite, and the like)Prior experience with computational modeling using computer simulations and mathematical algorithms to create virtual prototypes and complete multiscale analysis Demonstrated ability to self-determine, prioritize, and manage multiple tasksProven professional mentoring and communications skillsAbility to compose professional business correspondence for internal and external dissemination Demonstrated ability to work constructively with all levels of internal team members, senior staff, external suppliers, and customersHow To Stand OutMaster’s or PhD degree in Mechanical EngineeringRelated experience in the heat transfer, mechanical design, modelling, analytics, optimization and validation methods.
