Position SummaryWalter’s Soul Foods Café is seeking a strong, dependable, and experienced Hands-On Restaurant Manager who can lead by example and work directly alongside the team in daily operations. This is not a desk job—the ideal candidate must be willing to manage, cook when needed, supervise staff, solve problems quickly, and ensure excellent customer service while maintaining the high standards of our soul food brand.
The manager must be a leader who can handle both front-of-house and back-of-house responsibilities while keeping operations smooth, profitable, and customer-focused.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations
Oversee all daily restaurant operationsOpen and close the restaurant properlyEnsure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are metMonitor cleanliness, sanitation, and food safety complianceMaintain smooth kitchen and dining room operationsHandle customer concerns and resolve complaints professionallyKitchen ManagementAssist with cooking during busy periods when neededSupervise kitchen staff and prep teamMonitor food production and portion controlEnsure recipes and standards are followed consistentlyManage steam table setup and food holding qualityReduce waste and control food costStaff ManagementHire, train, schedule, and supervise employeesHold staff accountable for attendance, performance, and professionalismEnforce company policies and standardsConduct team meetings and coaching sessionsMaintain strong employee morale and discipline when necessaryFinancial ResponsibilitiesControl labor costs and scheduling efficiencyMonitor inventory and orderingReduce theft, waste, and unnecessary expensesAssist with budgeting and sales growth strategiesReview daily sales reports and cash handling proceduresCustomer ServiceEnsure guests receive excellent hospitalityBuild strong relationships with regular customersMaintain a welcoming and professional environmentProtect the reputation of Walter’s Soul Foods CaféQualifications3+ years restaurant management experience preferredSoul food or high-volume restaurant experience strongly preferredStrong kitchen knowledge and ability to cook when necessaryLeadership and team-building skillsExperience with scheduling, inventory, and labor managementStrong problem-solving ability under pressureExcellent communication and customer service skillsReliable transportation and flexible scheduleAbility to work weekends, holidays, and long shiftsPhysical RequirementsMust be able to stand for extended periodsMust be able to lift up to 50 poundsMust be comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environmentCompensationCompetitive salary based on experiencePerformance bonuses availableGrowth opportunities within the companyIdeal CandidateWe are looking for someone who treats the business like it is their own—someone who leads from the front, respects the culture of soul food, values teamwork, and understands that great food and great service create loyal customers.
