Controller – Architecture & Design FirmLocation: New YorkEmployment Type: Full-TimeAbout the OpportunityWe are partnering with a leading Architecture & Design firm to hire an experienced Controller who will oversee the organization's financial operations and serve as a strategic partner to executive leadership.This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with recent Architecture, Engineering, or Design (A/E/C) industry experience and hands-on Ajera expertise. You'll play a critical role in financial planning, project accounting, reporting, compliance, and supporting the firm's continued growth.If you thrive in a project-based professional services environment and enjoy collaborating with architects, designers, and project managers, we'd love to hear from you.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership• Lead all accounting and financial operations for the organization.• Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.• Monitor financial performance and provide strategic recommendations.• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.• Support external audits and regulatory reporting.• Advise executive leadership on financial strategy and business planning.Accounting Operations• Oversee Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), Payroll, Billing, General Ledger, Revenue Recognition, and Cost Accounting.• Manage cash flow and financial reporting activities.• Ensure accurate financial records and reporting.Project Accounting• Partner with Project Managers, Architects, and Interior Designers to support project financial management.• Track project costs, profitability, and financial performance.• Prepare monthly client progress billings.• Generate job cost reports and project financial analyses.• Monitor project budgets, expenses, and revenue recognition.• Provide financial insights that support project success.Qualifications Required• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.• 5+ years of accounting and financial management experience.• Recent experience working in an Architecture, Engineering, or Design (A/E/C) firm is required.• Hands-on experience using Ajera is mandatory.• Strong knowledge of:• Financial Reporting• General Ledger Accounting• Budgeting & Forecasting• Month-End & Year-End Close• Revenue Recognition• Project Accounting• Job Costing• Excellent analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.• Ability to work independently and collaborate across multiple departments.Preferred• CPA certification.• Current or recent Controller experience within an Architecture or Design firm.• Extensive experience with project-based accounting and professional services environments.• Ability to communicate financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.Benefits• Competitive Salary• 401(k)• 401(k) Matching• Health Insurance• Dental Insurance• Vision Insurance• Paid Time Off (PTO)Why Join Us?This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a talented leadership team in a collaborative design environment where finance plays a key role in business strategy and project success.
