Provides oncology genetic counseling to patients and families by obtaining genetic histories, assessing pertinent risk factors and developing family trees; counsels patients and families about risk factors and proposed diagnostic procedures.
Coordinates specimen collection and transfer to appropriate laboratory, monitors and reports test results to provider and patient.
Provides follow-up counseling and resources to patients when needed including referral to community support groups. Coordinates other genetic services as needed.
Informs providers and patients of test results.
Qualifications
Education (Required): Graduate of an Accreditation Council of Genetic Counseling (ACGC) accredited Master’s degree program or anticipated graduation of program within six (6) months of hire.
Certification (Preferred): Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or board eligible for certification by the ABGC with certification obtained within one (1) year of start date.
Experience (Required): At least one (1) year of Genetic Counseling in an Oncology outpatient setting.
