Controls Engineer

*Job Description* RECON Engineering & Construction, Inc. is seeking a Project Controls Engineer to support the successful execution of industrial construction projects through project cost management, financial analysis, forecasting, reporting, and operational support throughout the project lifecycle. This position works closely with Project Managers and other departments to monitor project performance, support owner billings, maintain accurate project data, and provide timely financial reporting. The Project Controls Engineer plays a key role in helping projects remain on schedule, within budget, and aligned with RECON’s operational standards and financial objectives. *Essential Responsibilities* *Project Cost Management:* * Develop, maintain, and monitor project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports. * Analyze project costs, labor productivity, and financial performance. * Identify cost variances and recommend corrective actions. *Financial Reporting:* * Prepare weekly and monthly project performance reports. * Support project forecasting, revenue recognition, and profitability analysis. * Provide accurate reporting to Project Managers and Executive Leadership. *Project Controls Support:* * Support project startup, execution, and closeout activities. * Coordinate project information between departments. * Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting systems. *Owner Billing and Change Management:* * Support owner billings and project invoicing. * Track change orders, time-and-material work, and project commitments. * Assist with revenue forecasting and project financial projections. *Procurement and Resource Coordination:* * Review purchase orders, subcontract commitments, and equipment costs. * Coordinate with Procurement to support project execution and cost management. *Continuous Improvement:* * Identify opportunities to improve reporting, workflows, and Project Controls processes. * Support the implementation of department standards, procedures, and best practices. *Education and Experience* * Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field preferred. * An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered. * Three or more years of experience in Project Controls, Cost Engineering, Project Engineering, Construction Accounting, or industrial construction is preferred. * Experience supporting heavy industrial construction, maintenance, shutdowns, or EPC projects is preferred. *Required Technical Skills* * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, data analysis, and reporting. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Teams, and PowerPoint. * Ability to learn and effectively use company-specific software applications. *Preferred Systems Experience* * SCM, Sage Construction Management, or similar construction project-management software. * Econz workforce-management and timekeeping software. * IDI project accounting and job-cost-management systems. * Construction cost reporting, forecasting, and financial-management systems. * Business-reporting or dashboard tools such as Power BI. *Skills and Abilities* * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. * Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities. * Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams. * Financial and operational mindset with the ability to analyze project performance. * Commitment to continuous improvement and process efficiency. * Ability to maintain the confidentiality of company and client information. *Physical Requirements* * Primarily office-based work requiring prolonged sitting and computer use. * Occasional visits to active construction projects. * Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. * Occasional travel to project sites or company offices based on business needs. *Equal Employment Opportunity* *RECON is an E-Verify Employer.* RECON Engineering & Construction, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer.
