Details Acute care hospital setting on a 22-bed Med/Surg Orthopedics unit with an average daily census of 6 Patient population includes post-surgical orthopedic cases such as total knee, hip, ankle, and shoulder replacements, as well as cervical and lumbar spine procedures Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6, with nurse aides/patient care techs available at a 1:13 ratio Telemetry monitoring is available on the unit; tele techs handle strip reading and interpretation Charting is performed in Epic RNs administer pain medications, antibiotics, and blood products at set rates; drip titration is not required 24/7 phlebotomy services are available on the unit 12-hour night shifts (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM) with self-scheduling and cyclic rotation Every other weekend is required Holiday coverage is rotated with permanent staff Floating may be required to Med/Surg, rehab, or PCU units at Med/Surg acuity levels Call-back response time is 30 minutes if called in from on-call status 13-week contract Requirements Active NE state or Compact (NLC) RN license — must be active at time of consideration; pending licenses are not accepted Current BLS certification required; pending certifications are not accepted Minimum 2 years of RN experience required Med/Surg experience required Epic EMR experience required A valid driver's license is required for consideration and is used to verify residence outside the 50-mile radius Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years — must include dates of employment and eligibility for rehire Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position Additional Information Unit orientation consists of 1 day of department-specific orientation, followed by a pass/fail open-book exam on skills learned during orientation — a score of 90% or higher is required to pass Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove them will result to contract termination Candidates may not currently be or have been directly employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year — candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered RTO must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved Block scheduling is not approved unless weekends-only; duo scheduling with shared schedules or shared transportation is not accepted Successful candidates on this unit tend to be team-oriented, flexible, and willing to take ownership of their responsibilities within the department American Traveler Job ID P-692515.
