Safe Voices, a domestic violence and sex trafficking resource center serving Androscoggin, Franklin, and Oxford Counties, is hiring for a Civil Justice Advocate. This position is based in Androscoggin County and has limited travel needs.
The Civil Justice advocate is responsible for providing trauma-informed advocacy to survivors of domestic abuse and violence on a drop-in and an on-going basis. Primary job responsibilities include:
Provide safety planning, support, crisis intervention, court advocacy and referrals to community resources to survivors
Accompany survivors to Protection From Abuse Order court
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including with court officials, Judges and appointed legal representatives
Support survivors in understanding their rights under the Violence Against Women Act
Demonstrate sensitivity to, and understanding of, the cultural and socioeconomic status of persons served
Document all client interactions in accordance to Safe Voices data and documentation guidelines
Provide coverage on the Safe Voices 24-hr Helpline as scheduled
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Qualifications:
Pass State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) check
Pass Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) check
Pass Department of Motor Vehicle check
Hold valid Maine driver’s license, reliable transportation and willingness to travel on occasion
Associate or bachelor’s Degree preferred
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel in varying weather conditions
Ability to sit/stand/walk for extended periods
Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds
Adhere to universal safety precautions
Pay & Benefits:
Pay starts at $23.25 per hour and will increase based on experience
