Middle School Social Studies Teacher
The middle school history and social studies teacher must be able to communicate effectively through a relational approach, encouraging students to take risks in learning and to demonstrate learning in innovative ways. The middle school history and social studies teacher is a part of the upper school faculty and reports to the upper school principal. All members of the faculty are expected to contribute to chapel and other spiritual development activities and other duties as assigned.
Major responsibilities:
Prepare appropriate weekly lesson plans including instructional objectives, learning activities and assessments integrated with Biblical foundations
Utilize appropriate educational technology
Create and evaluate appropriate instructional and assessment methods
Maintain appropriate pacing in accordance with the curriculum guide
Maintain a collaborative relationship with all members of the faculty
Demonstrate the maturity to inspire student learning and understanding of the age group
Maintain a positive classroom environment, conducive to learning, yet open to questioning and participation
Effectively communicate and partner with parents in the educational and spiritual development of students
Support school initiatives and show support for student interests outside of the school day
QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in history or a related content area
Exhibit a strong faith and exemplary lifestyle.
All applicants must be members of a local church, able to give a strong defense of their faith, and able to sign and abide by the SCA statement of faith to be considered
Possess or be working toward a Professional Teaching Certificate from the Alabama Department of Education
Must be able to establish and maintain effective professional relationships
Have experience using classroom technology, electronic resources, programs, and platforms
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to accept direction and professional development
Ability to exercise good judgment
