Field-Based Lead Systems Technician (Security, AV & Fire)
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lead Systems Technician (Security, AV & Fire) to support the deployment and ongoing service of integrated technology systems. This role serves as the on-site technical leader responsible for installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting complex security, audiovisual, fire alarm, and low-voltage infrastructure systems.
This is a hands-on, field-based role requiring regular work at customer locations. The Lead Systems Technician plays a critical role in ensuring quality execution, technical accuracy, and client satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Install, configure, test, and commission integrated systems including Video surveillance (IP and analog CCTV), Access control and intrusion systems, Fire alarm and life safety systems, Commercial AV systems (conference rooms, displays, audio systems).
Perform low-voltage cabling installation, termination, labeling, and testing (Cat6, fiber, speaker, control).
Install and support equipment racks, enclosures, patch panels, switches, and head-end equipment.
Serve as the primary technical lead on assigned job sites.
Provide direction and mentorship to field technicians.
Diagnose and resolve system, network, and infrastructure issues.
Oversee the execution of multiple projects concurrently, ensuring all tasks and deliverables are completed on schedule and meet rigorous quality standards.
Interface professionally with clients, project managers, inspectors, and AHJs.
Maintain accurate documentation, as-built drawings, and service records.
Stay up-to-date with latest technologies, trends and best practices.
Additional Responsibilities
Technical Leadership: Lead job-site technical execution, provide direction to field teams, and support complex technical escalations across security, AV, and fire systems.
Maintenance & Repair: Provide ongoing service, troubleshooting, and repairs for installed systems while performing preventative maintenance and system updates.
Project Coordination: Coordinate field activities, manage timelines and resources, and support project managers to ensure work is completed on schedule and within scope.
Communication: Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for clients and internal teams, providing clear updates and professional support throughout projects.
Training & Development: Mentor and train junior technicians, stay current with evolving technologies, and share knowledge to maintain team-wide technical excellence.
Compliance, Quality & Support: Maintain compliance with safety policies, support on-call coverage and travel, and perform other duties as needed to support overall operations.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on lead field experience in security systems, AV systems, fire alarm systems, or systems integration.
Demonstrated experience working across multiple disciplines (security, AV, and/or fire).
Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals (IP addressing, PoE, VLANs).
Proven ability to lead work in active, on-site environments. Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
Hands-on experience with hand tools, cabling equipment, computer hardware troubleshooting, and software diagnostics.
Mechanical aptitude with the ability to work with mechanical components related to system installations.
Ability to read technical schematics accurately and follow detailed installation instructions.
Valid driver’s license required; willingness to travel frequently for field service projects.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities to oversee field teams effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
NICET or fire alarm certifications.
CTS or manufacturer-specific AV certifications.
Manufacturer certifications for access control or video platforms.
