Job Description
Position SummaryThe Optometrist is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in examining, diagnosing, treating, and managing conditions of the visual system and the eyes. They provide comprehensive eye care services, including vision testing, prescribing corrective lenses, detecting eye diseases, and offering clinical management or referrals when necessary.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform comprehensive eye and vision examinations.Diagnose refractive errors and prescribe corrective lenses (glasses or contact lenses).Detect, diagnose, and manage ocular diseases (e.g., glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration).Treat vision conditions such as binocular vision disorders or focusing problems.Prescribe medications for certain eye conditions where permitted by state law.Provide pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing eye surgery (e.g., LASIK or cataract surgery).Document patient histories, findings, and treatment plans accurately.Patient Care & CommunicationEducate patients on eye health, preventive care, and treatment options.Counsel patients on proper lens care and usage.Provide recommendations for lifestyle-related vision needs (e.g., safety eyewear, sports vision).Practice ManagementMaintain and operate diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, OCT, visual field analyzers, and slit lamps.Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, infection control standards, and documentation protocols.Manage patient scheduling and workflow efficiency.Oversee inventory of optical products and supplies.Supervise or collaborate with opticians, technicians, and administrative staff.Required QualificationsDoctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree from an accredited optometry school.Active state optometry license.Completion of national and state examinations (NBEO).Strong clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills.Excellent communication and patient‐care skills.Preferred Qualifications (Optional)Residency training in a specialty (e.g., pediatrics, ocular disease, low vision).Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.Bilingual in Keres and English languagesExperience in a tribal 638 facility.Core CompetenciesAttention to detailProblem-solving and diagnostic accuracyPatient-centered communicationManual dexterity for eye exams and equipment useAbility to remain calm and professional in clinical situationsEthical judgment and adherence to clinical standardsCompany DescriptionHaak'u Health Center, formally Acoma/Canoncito/Laguna (ACL) Clinic is now hiring!
