Program Head Counselor of Challenge Course Minimum qualifications: At least 21 years of age, and 1-2 year’s experience leading challenge based activities (low and High ropes) Hold at least a level one Challenge Course Certification (ACCT) (we can send you out for training) working knowledge of the equipment and safety systems that accompany them (belay systems, rescues, debriefing facilitation, etc.) Enjoy working with children of all backgrounds Passionate about working outdoors Commit to June 5th through August 26th. Weekly Salary range: $625-$725 Possible Housing Program Head Counselor of Challenge Course duties include (But not limited to): Create an emotionally and physically safe environment for risk taking in group games & initiatives Help campers aged 9 – 15 connect, problem solve, and collaborate oversees programming for younger campers, ages 5 – 8, on the 30-foot indoor climbing wall Ability and creativity to plan a wide range of Challenge Course activities and programs throughout the summer Ability to conduct regular safety inspections and checks as well as maintenance of equipment, repairing, recommending repair, or removing equipment as needed Manage a Small Program Area Budget o Identify supply needs o Submit supply orders in a timely fashion Communicate goals and expectations to all campers and staff who enter the High or low ropes courses Delegate tasks and responsibilities to group counselors as needed at each area Maintain a safe and clean space for all campers and staff Supervise Program Instructor of Challenge Course Train other staff in belay technique and other challenge course related skills All staff must adhere to the health and safety laws set forth by the State of Maine Dept of Human Services Youth Camps Division, and standards for accreditation with the American Camping Association. Considerations: Applicants should realize that the job of a camp counselor is challenging, demanding, and requires a great deal of patience and understanding. Personal lifestyle sacrifices may have to be made including disconnecting from daily use of digital technology during the camp day. Sensitive and dynamic leadership is necessary to provide youngsters the opportunity to grow, learn to positively relate to others, establish life-long values, and increase their appreciation of the natural world. Minimum qualifications: At least 21 years of age with a strong background in working on a dynamic challenge course and working knowledge of the equipment and safety systems that accompany them (belay systems, rescues, debriefing facilitation, etc.). Must enjoy working with children of all backgrounds, and be passionate about working outdoors and engaging campers ages 5 – 15. Must have the ability to plan a wide range of activities and programs throughout the summer. Preferred qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years of direct experience leading challenge courses. Regionally recognized challenge course or climbing wall certifications.
