Their platform pairs custom test hardware with embedded C++ software to give customers a reliable, flexible way to run large-scale device verification, with test programs often running for hours at a time across environmentally controlled chambers.They are looking to add an experienced Embedded C++ Software Engineer to their growing engineering team, working closely with hardware and electrical engineers to build and maintain the software that powers their test systems.Key Responsibilities:Developing and maintaining C++ software that controls custom test hardware used in high-volume device verificationWorking directly with hardware engineers to bring up new test board designs, interpreting schematics and datasheetsMaking Linux kernel and driver-level modifications to support new hardwareMaintaining and extending a well-established C++ codebase, understanding when to modernise it and when not toEnsuring APIs are structured cleanly so customers can build their own test scripts, including via PythonDebugging and troubleshooting via logging in a closed, embedded environment (no interactive debugging tools)Collaborating closely with a small, flat engineering team and a dedicated hardware teamIdeal Profile:Strong hands-on experience with C++ in a Linux environmentComfortable reading schematics and datasheets, ideally with an Electrical Engineering background or equivalent hands-on hardware experienceExperience with Linux kernel or driver development; exposure to Buildroot or Yocto is a strong plusSelf-starter who is comfortable diving into an established codebase and figuring things out independently2+ years of relevant experience (open to non-traditional backgrounds where experience demonstrates the required skills)Must be authorised to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorshipComfortable working 5 days a week on-site in Austin, TXThis is a great opportunity to join a small, hands-on engineering team at a hardware-first business, working on software that sits right at the intersection of embedded systems, low-level Linux development, and real hardware.APPLY NOW to discuss further details.5V Tech are acting as an Employment Agency for the purposes of this position.
