Job Responsibilities:
Use geologic knowledge and skills to read geologic maps and literature to find and enter geologic and mineral resource data into spreadsheets for statistical or geospatial analysis.
Georeference raster images using a variety of base map material and approaches – topographic maps, digital elevation models and orthoimagery.
Enter data into ArcGIS software using scanned and georeferenced images, text files, spreadsheets of tabular data, and (or) database files.
Create and edit Federal Geographic Data Commission metadata to accompany data published as USGS Data Releases.
Edit, attribute, and proof ArcGIS files (stored in file geodatabases and shapefiles).
Manipulate and analyze data needed to perform modeling using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, and Image Analyst extensions.
Provide digital documentation of work conducted on assigned projects, following procedures that comply with Federal Geographic Data Commission metadata standards.
Create and prepare products for publications using ArcGIS, and other desktop publishing software (such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop).
Write portions of USGS publications series technical reports for technical review and publication, as appropriate. Follow all USGS existing procedures and guidelines for content creation. Performers are expected to know standards for USGS Data Releases.
Provide technical reviews of GIS databases and metadata.
Enter data from tables into spreadsheets for statistical or geospatial analysis.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in geography, geographic information systems, surveying, civil engineering, and/or a natural resources field preferred.
A minimum of six (6) years of experience with the full suite of ESRI ArcGIS Pro software, and GPS equipment
5+ years of experience using ArcGIS software in geologic and mineral resource studies to create, review, and publish GIS databases.
5+ years experience georeferencing analog geologic maps using ArcGIS software. Must have experience using a variety of methods including using coordinate tic marks, topographic, hydrologic, and cultural features on variety of base maps – topographic, elevation models, and orthoimagery.
5+ experience creating and editing shapefiles and feature classes sourced from both raster and tabular data, including the creation and editing of attribute tables.
5+ years experience evaluating mineral deposit and prospect information, including grade, tonnage, deposit type, and location sourced from NI-43-101 reports, exploration company press releases and websites, and other similar materials, using GIS, and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
