Principal Software Engineer

Our engineering team builds the technology that powers clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and meaningful outcomes across the schools and communities we serve.We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who thrives in a fast-moving environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and wants to impact real-world mental health care delivery.This is an individual contributor role ideal for someone who loves building robust, scalable systems and collaborating closely across product, clinical, and operational teams.What You’ll DoCore Engineering WorkDesign, build, and deploy scalable, secure, and compliant systems across front-end, back-end, and data layersDevelopment and maintain infrastructure-as-code system (CDK) to enable new features and improve reliability and security.Develop features and technical solutions in partnership with Product and Engineering leadershipDebug, monitor, and optimize systems for speed, reliability, and user experienceSystems Design & IntegrationsBuild data pipelines and integrations with EHRs, student information systems, and internal platformsEnhance workflow automation to improve clinical and operational efficiencyImplement HIPAA-compliant architecture, access control, and data protectionsCross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with the VP of Product and Director of EngineeringTranslate technical requirements into scalable solutions that support organizational prioritiesProvide leadership and mentoring to less experienced developersYou’ll Be Measured OnTimely delivery of high-quality product features and system improvementsSystem uptime, data integrity, and security complianceEfficiency improvements from workflow automationSuccessful integrations across clinical and data systemsSatisfaction from internal teams and cross-functional partnersWhat We’re Looking For Required Qualifications7+ years of experience building and maintaining data-intensive platformsStrong understanding of system architecture, cloud infrastructure, and API integrationsExperience with Agile development and strong operational disciplineExcellent communication skills across technical and non-technical groupsExperience with React.js and frameworks such as Next.jsFluency in JavaScript (TypeScript preferred) and SQLExperience with AWS (e.g., ECS, Lambda, CloudFormation, Cognito), MongoDB/Amazon DocumentDB, and HIPAA-compliant systemsFamiliarity with Jest or similar testing frameworksPreferred QualificationsExperience in healthcare or knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA)Background in EdTech or experience working with school systemsExperience with mobile development (e.g., React Native)Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environmentWho You AreYou bring curiosity, ownership, and initiative to your work.
