Diesel Refuse Truck Mechanic
Heavy Refuse Truck Mechanic
Repairing and performing preventative maintenance on Refuse, Recycling Trucks and Compactors. This position reports to the Regional Operations Manager.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Review of the driver pre and post trip inspection sheets and perform necessary repairs to trucks and equipment.
Complete scheduled preventive maintenance service on all equipment.
Diagnoses malfunctions & repairs, rebuilds, adjusts heavy-duty diesel-powered equipment.
Work in partnership with drivers and leadership to perform necessary repairs, maintenance, or inspection or troubleshooting of: Diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks including, but not limited to, chassis components, vehicle refuse bodies and control systems, hydraulic, electrical, air brake systems, general engine work, HVAC components, suspension, drive train, diesel emissions and steering systems with limited supervision.
Repairs equipment using acetylene & arc welding tools.
Writes up work orders including brief descriptions of repair work performed & parts used.
Operate heavy equipment to insure proper working order. CDL Class B License is a PLUS
Responsible for the clean-up of shop area to assure a clean safe work area.
Respond to a repair issue off of company property regarding one of our fleet vehicles or compactor units
When necessary, perform basic tire work. (Ex. replacement, tire rotation, and tread depth checks).
Perform road service calls to help colleagues during emergency breakdowns.
Any and all maintenance duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Skills:
Knowledge of operation & principles of diesel engines: methods, material, tools & equipment used in the repair of diesel-powered vehicles & related parts, hydraulic & air brake systems, electrical & cooling systems, automatic & standard transmissions, hydraulic pumps, motors & control valves.
Ability to recognize & diagnose heavy duty diesel equipment mechanical problems, properly repair & adjust diesel equipment & component parts, read & understand repair manuals & schematics, improvise repair of equipment, follow oral & written directions, acetylene & arc welding, work safely in & around equipment, safely operate refuse trucks, safely & properly operate tools & equipment in repairing & rebuilding diesel powered equipment.
Mechanics will possess their own tools and the knowledge to use them safely.
Ability to understand instructions written and verbal in English.
Ability to work well under pressure, independently or as a team.
Complete required documentation utilizing software programs associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
Follow all required safety policies and procedures and report any safety or employee experience issues immediately to leadership.
Good time management skills to ensure all work is completed within standard repair times.
Strong communication skills to share technical details about repairs or tasks with drivers
Flexibilty to work some after-hours and some weekends, if need arises
Ability to travel within the region once per month
Good problem-solving skills to address unexpected issues
Desire to work as a team, while helping and interacting respectfully with each other.

Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
