Payroll Analyst
Position Title: Payroll AnalystCompensation: $24–38/hour (based on experience)Position SummaryThe Payroll Analyst is responsible for end‑to‑end payroll processing for a multi‑state employee population, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all applicable regulations and internal policies. This role goes beyond transactional payroll work by supporting continuous improvement initiatives, system optimization, and scalable payroll operations. The position also provides backup support to payroll leadership and serves as a knowledgeable resource for payroll-related inquiries.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProcess payroll accurately and on time for a multi‑state workforce using designated payroll and timekeeping systemsEnsure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and internal policiesCollect, validate, and maintain employee payroll data with a high level of confidentiality and accuracyIdentify payroll discrepancies, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actionsResearch and resolve payroll and timekeeping issues with urgency and accountabilityMaintain payroll records related to new hires, job changes, terminations, and tax updatesRespond to employee payroll questions with professionalism and strong customer serviceSupport payroll-related benefits deductions and reportingPrepare payroll reports, analyze data, and contribute to data integrity and standardization effortsAssist with internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and payroll dataIdentify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiencyServe as a payroll subject matter resource and support cross‑training initiativesProvide backup support to payroll leadership and benefit functions as neededCollaborate across departments while managing priorities independently in a deadline‑driven environmentPerform other related duties as assignedRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in Accounting, Business, or related field preferredMinimum of 3 years of payroll processing experienceExperience processing payroll in a multi‑state environmentStrong understanding of payroll principles and practicesExperience with HR/payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now and UKG preferred)Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with intermediate or advanced Excel skillsStrong attention to detail, analytical ability, and problem‑solving skillsDemonstrated ownership of work and ability to drive issues through resolutionExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to manage multiple deadlines and perform well under pressureFlexibility to work overtime during critical payroll cycles, including occasional evenings or weekendsPreferred QualificationsBilingual (Spanish or Karen)Experience supporting payroll system upgrades, implementations, or integrationsInterest in long‑term professional growth within payroll or HR operationsExposure to continuous improvement or automation initiatives
