Quality Manager
JOB DESCRIPTIONSummary/Objective: Manage the entire Quality department. Oversee the development of company’s food safety and quality management system (FSQMS). Oversee the statistical process control (SPC) used in improving product safety and product quality. Oversee and manage the Quality Control department. Set food safety and food quality goals, and lead all quality department team members to achieve those goals. Essential Functions· Oversee and assist in all functions of the Food Safety and Regulatory Manager· Develop company’s quality objectives and lead Quality department to meet those goals· Oversee the Quality Control department, and assist in all issues related to product quality· Direct the data collection emphases of Quality Control department to assist in improving overall product quality· Lead data analysis team to manage and develop process improvement projects by applying SPC and Lean Six Sigma principles· Advises Director of Quality and Production in all issues related to food safety and food quality.· Recommend procedures for detection, prevention, and elimination of physical, chemical, or other food safety and quality hazards.· Stay up-to-date with current regulatory and food safety issues relevant to pet food industry· Manage SQF certification and all that is associated with it· Train and update management and employees concerning required SQF regulations and exercises· Manage and assist on company audits: SQF, USDA, customer, OSHA, GMP· Oversee all required documents and preparations for USDA export certifications· Manage and mitigate any export issues that may arise from customers or governments· Understand and apply regulations given from trade associations such as AAFCO· Oversee the safety training matrix for all employees and review/recommend additional training as needed· Ensure that company products meet all regulations given by federal and state governments, customer specifications, and company specifications through work with management, QC, and R&D departments· Manage the internal audit team, with a focus on continuous improvement of the FSQMS and company as a wholeReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.If the Food Safety and Regulatory Manager is absent or unable to work, essential food safety functions should be covered by the Production Manager Assistant and the QC Manager. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position. Hours and days of work varied depending on shift and production demands.TravelRarely depending on training needs.Required Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree in compliance, food science, or comparable studies required. 2-3 year’s experience in food manufacturing environment preferred.
