RF/Antenna Test Engineering Director
Fairwinds is looking for innovators who can successfully execute across multiple disciplines as part of a small business environment. An ideal candidate would be an out of the box thinker, develop innovative solutions, and provide expertise in an IP connected environment across RF Tactical & Naval Military Solutions to strategic border protection Applications. This would include experience in communications systems & test engineering including reflector based and phased array SATCOM antenna systems. Work under the Chief Technology & Strategy Office to define internal R&D Test and Evaluation Investment and develop multiple antenna test solutions for customers across the communications & radar spectrums. RF Performance & Characterization Testing & Configuration experience a priority. Looking for someone that has the ability to interact with both customers & engineering design teams to identify approaches to test and evaluate new cutting edge technologies and identify current issues and correct those to the customers satisfaction.
Location: APG, MD (HYBRID)
Type: Hybrid up to 40 hours a week in the office as needed.
Required Skills:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, or Systems Engineering or advanced degrees in Physics/Electromagnetics.
5 years’ experience in Anechoic Chamber Antenna Test Range Characterization and certification validation/verification.
5 years’ experience with designing tests for SATCOM reflector-based antennas integrated with Radome.
5 years’ experience leading Test & Evaluation engineering teams to develop custom test plans and procedures for DoD testing.
Understanding of RF Propagation Theory and how it relates with materials engineering.
Understanding of Radar Cross Section concepts in radar systems.
Ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of test processes and equipment.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in RF and antenna testing.
Ability to not shy away from technical challenges and an approach of how it can be done, not how it can't be done.
Experience with SATCOM, Terrestrial Wireless/Radio Systems.
Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Labview, and Python or equivalent.
Experience with RF Test Equipment including but not limited to: Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, Signal Generators, etc.
Experience writing Technical White Papers
Ability to work independently and up to 75% remote.
Ability to Travel up to 30% of the time.
Ability to brief non-technical Senior Leadership with experience briefing on highly technical matters.
US Citizen
Active Secret or higher DoD Security Clearance
Additional Experience in these areas is a plus:
Master of Electrical, Systems, or Computer Engineering – Or equivalent
10 years’ experience in development & testing of Mobile SATCOM Integrated Radome Antenna Systems.
5 years’ experience developing & testing Electronically steered Phased Array antenna systems.
Experience with phased arrays, metamaterials, and/or patch antenna modelling, design, fab, and test in a research and development setting
Proficiency with a variety of popular analysis tools such as ADS, Microwave Office, HFSS, Feko, CST, and/or GRASP
A background in scientific programming using languages such as C, C++, Fortran, Python, Rust, or Julia
