Geologist
Duties Duties are listed at the GS-11 grade level.Participate in validity examinations to determine and/or make recommendations regarding the presence of minerals within public lands.Determine the impacts of prospecting, exploration, development and mining on public lands through the application of geologic principles.Evaluate ground water conditions for water well sites, geologic hazards, and unique geologic resources in support of public lands management.Determine the geologic limitations and capacities of projects in a specific geographical area.Contribute geologic information input on interdisciplinary teams to support environmental impact studies on public lands.Prepare report of findings including the collection and analysis or review of geological dataAssess public land for the potential of mineral presence to support management activities.Serve as expert witness by providing testimony in validity determination cases through the use of geologic subject matter expertise.
