Wet Zone- LIFEGUARD SWIM INSTRUCTOR
Lifeguard PositionUnder direct supervision, performs lifeguard duties and teaches basic to advanced swim strokes, helps keep the facility and grounds clean. Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs lifeguard duties; guards pool, rescues swimmers in need, administers first aid, enforces adherence to safety rules in the pool, completes forms, maintains certification through in-service training, performs safety inspections daily. Instruct and demonstrate basic, intermediate, and advanced swim strokes to swim lesson participants. Teach participants how to stay safe around water by using basic safety swim techniques. Help clean restroom areas, grounds, and buildings in the water park area; picks up trash, cleans decks, cleans bathrooms and performs miscellaneous janitorial duties; attends in-service training on a weekly basis. Performs lifeguard duties at special events and facility rentals. Reads and follow all safety precautions listed on chemicals prior to handling; reads and becomes familiar with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Performs other duties as assigned. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential function of this position, as is the ability to create and maintain professional, harmonious working relationships with others.
Ability to read and write. Experience as a lifeguard is preferred but not required. American Red Cross Shallow Water Attendant Certification will be required and training can be provided. Ability to read and write to complete time sheets, daily reports and comprehend safety materials, warning labels on chemicals and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Ability to do simple math to complete time sheets, mix chemicals and solutions. Ability to use judgment to determine action needed during emergency situations. Initiative and ability to foresee problem conditions or safety risks at the Water Park and take corrective action. Ability to handle people effectively in emergency situations, good oral communication skills to teach lessons and educate the public. Ability to maintain a good working relationship with other employees and maintain a good relationship with all age groups and the general public.
Will work a varying schedule, including weekends and holidays as designated by the Water Park Safety Supervisor. American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard training required. Water Safety Instructor training required prior to start of season. Environmental factors consist of working outside in the heat, sun, high humidity and wind. Exposure to HTH, chlorine, muriatic acid, pool chemicals, and slippery surfaces. Basic noise factors consist of crowds and whistles. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
