Quality Engineer
SummaryUnder the direction of the VP of Manufacturing, the Quality Engineer develops and implements quality assurance standards, processes, and controls. Develops methods for inspection, testing, sampling, and training. Evaluates production capabilities and recommends improvements. May assist in developing quality assurance policies and procedures.The focus of the Quality Engineer is on four primary areas:Providing exceptional customer service in response to quality complaintsProviding Quality Control Plans for all assigned productsWorking independently or in a team to develop and implement solutions to quality problemsBeing an integral part of the company-wide effort of Continuous Process Improvement.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem necessary from time to time.DutiesDevelop, coordinate and maintain the Quality KPI's for the assigned production area to ensure zero quality claims for the customer and next process on the supply chain.Coordinate containment, Process and Product Audits, Actions Plans, Quick Kaizen, A3, 8D and Major Kaizen to ensure zero quality claims for the customer and next process on the supply chainEstablish a Visual Factory Processes to show in real time Process and Product Capability performance to encourage Cp/Cpk improvements.Provide engineering support and ensure consistent application of quality techniques to solve problem.Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes. Review and analyze results. Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.Participate in the development of Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and approved it.Write and revise Quality System Procedures/Work Instructions/Process Qualifications and control plans.Perform all the required and related PPAPDetermines quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes.Establishes statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error; determining levels of confidence.Develops sampling plans by applying attribute, variable, and sequential sampling methods.Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; making recommendations.Assist conducting conformance audits of Internal procedures, product compliance to customer requirementsAssist in the investigation of product and process failures that impact customer product. Work with the customer in an ethical manner that helps resolve these failures.Respond promptly to customer inquiriesJOB REQUIREMENTS: Excellent verbal and professional writing skills Excellent problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn Technical Writing (e.g. Work Instruction/Procedures, Validation Docs) Customer/Supplier Quality (Auditing, Problem Resolution, Corrective Action) CQE (Certified Quality Engineer). Hands on experience working in a welding production environment is desiredEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering/Industrial Engineering Technology or three plus years of manufacturing experience. Applicable product knowledge preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, and ISO and ASME Codes. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively communicate with managers, vendors, customers, and other employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except for when in the production facilities. Required PPE: When in the production facility; Safety glasses w/ side shields and protective footwear with steel toe are required. Hearing protection is required in designated areas Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts. Process Quality (Process Flow, FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP) Quality Systems (ISO9001, ISO14001, AS90001, IATF16949, and ITAR) Comfortable communicating cross-functionally and across management levels in formal and informal settings Ability to write & execute test plans
