Overview As a Systems Development Engineer on the Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team, you enable lab readiness and scalable hardware testing for server, networking, and optical platforms. You’ll coordinate lab resources, partner with cross-functional teams, and support prototype bring-up and validation in a safe, organized lab environment. You’ll drive network and system administration tasks to keep labs productive as Google expands its data-center-scale infrastructure. This role blends hands-on hardware, networking, and software to impact high-impact computing systems. ResponsibilitiesDefine tasks, coordinate activities, deliverables, and schedulesPartner with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver network connectivity solutionsAssist in maintaining Platforms Infrastructure Engineering labs across multiple campusesTroubleshoot and root cause network issues and Linux systems problems in lab contextsConfigure and deploy network gear (routers, switches, console servers); perform rack-and-stack and cabling for new lab deployments (copper and fiber) Key requirementsBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, related field, or equivalent practical experience2 years of experience in a systems administration technical environment (or 1 year with advanced degree)Experience with network administrationExperience in project management within an engineering lab or technical environmentcollaboration with cross-functional teamsproblem-solving and troubleshootingorganization and attention to safety in labsLinux system administration (5+ years preferred)bash or Linux shell scriptingPython (preferred)
