You're someone who goes beyond task completion to deliver genuine value through high-quality, maintainable code and a positive experience for everyone involved.What you'll be doing (in a nutshell): In this role, you'll take ownership of key operational responsibilities for our backend systems, ensuring smooth delivery and execution of our Ruby on Rails applications. You'll work collaboratively with product, design, and other engineering teams to build seamless outcomes, evolve our APIs, and support organizational success.Day-to-day you can expect to:Design, develop, and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails applications and backend servicesBuild and maintain robust RESTful APIs while ensuring secure authentication and authorization patternsWork with relational databases including AWS RDS, MySQL, and PostgresWrite clean, well-tested code following engineering best practices and implement background jobsTroubleshoot, debug, and optimize application performance to ensure a great user experienceParticipate in code reviews and contribute to improving our engineering standardsIdentify opportunities for process improvement and technical innovation within the codebaseTo be successful, you'll have:At least 3 years of professional experience with Ruby on RailsSolid understanding of Ruby, JavaScript or Typescript, and MVC architectureStrong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL and ORM tools like ActiveRecordProficiency with RSpec, Git, and mocking and unit testing principlesExperience with background job processing using tools like SidekiqExcellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders and collaborate with frontend teamsA detail-oriented approach with a commitment to quality, accuracy, and clean codeBonus points if you bring:Understanding or experience with GraphQLExperience implementing or integrating SSO (Single Sign-On)Previous experience working in cloud environments, specifically AWSFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and working in a fast-paced or scaling organizationA problem-solving approach with confidence navigating ambiguity or changeWhy Perkbox?It's an exciting time to join us at such a pivotal moment.
