Staff Accountant (Temp)
Summary/ObjectiveThe Staff Accountant supports the Finance function by performing a range of professional accounting duties to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial records and reporting. This position is responsible for assisting with journal entries, account reconciliations, financial statement preparation, and audit support, while maintaining compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and organizational policies. The role works collaboratively across departments to support financial operations, reporting needs, and continuous process improvement initiatives. This position is a temporary, part-time assignment (approximately 25 hours per week) expected to begin as soon as possible and conclude in or around November 2026 with the possibility to extend based on needs. This role is not eligible for benefits.Essential FunctionsReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.1. Prepare and post journal entries, maintain account accuracy, and support month-end and year-end close. 2. Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, balance sheet accounts, and resolve discrepancies.3. Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, variance analyses, and internal management reports.4. Process Invoices, expense reports, and customer payments as needed. 5. Build meaningful reports in ERP (Sage). 6. Provide documentation and support for audits.7. Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal policies. 8. Analyze routine tasks and introduce enhancements that simplify and strengthen accounting function.Skills/Abilities1. Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles. 2. Skilled in Excel and familiar with Sage. 3. Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and resolve discrepancies. 4. Clear written and verbal communication for cross-department collaboration. Education and Experience1. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. 2. 1-3 years of accounting experience required.Other Duties1. Assist other teams with financial questions, reporting needs, or documentation requests. 2. Participate in system upgrades, process redesigns, or financial analysis projects as assigned. 3. Maintain organized files, update records, and support general office functions. Other duties as assigned.Supervisory ResponsibilityThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities.BenefitsThis is a temporary, part-time, hourly, non-exempt position anticipated to run from May 2026 through November 2026 (this could be extended or end early based on work needs), with an expected workload of 25 hours per week. No benefits are associated with this temporary role.Where will you work? We offer a flexible hybrid work model, with employees based out of our headquarters in Rockville, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Team members typically work in the office anywhere from a few times per week to once a month, depending on their role and team needs.Occasional in-person attendance is required for division and staff meetings.
