Accessibility Engineer/Expert

Job Summary:The Accessibility Engineer or Accessibility Expert is responsible for ensuring that digital content, documents, and web applications are fully accessible to users with disabilities, in accordance with accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.2 and Section 508. The role involves remediation of documents, optimizing digital assets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to achieve compliance with accessibility requirements. The individual in this role will also provide guidance on best practices and conduct both automated and manual accessibility testing.Essential Functions:Analyze and remediate documents (PDFs, Word, Excel, HTML, etc.) to meet WCAG 2.2, Section 508, and other accessibility standards.Tag digital elements of documents to ensure compatibility with assistive technologies like JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.Conduct accessibility audits of websites, applications, and digital content using both manual and automated testing methods.Collaborate with design, development, and content teams to integrate accessibility into all digital assets.Provide recommendations and guidance on best practices for document and web accessibility.Implement quality control checks to verify the accessibility of remediated content.Stay up to date with current laws, emerging accessibility technologies, and evolving standards.Non-Essential Functions:Assist in the development of training programs to educate teams on accessibility best practices.Participate in industry discussions, forums, and professional networks on digital accessibility.Test new tools and techniques to improve efficiency in remediation processes.Job Specifications:Education:Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Web Design, or related fields (preferred).Accessibility certifications such as IAAP CPACC, WAS, or DHS Trusted Tester are a plus.Experience:3-5 years of experience in document and digital accessibility remediation, with a proven record of compliance with WCAG and Section 508 standards.Experience using assistive technologies like screen readers, speech recognition tools, and magnification software.Expertise in working with different document formats (e.g., PDFs, Word, Excel) and tagging for accessibility.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:In-depth knowledge of WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 standards.Proficiency in accessibility testing tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro, Axe, WAVE, PAC 3).Familiarity with web development technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.Strong communication skills to articulate accessibility recommendations clearly and work with teams effectively.Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve accessibility issues.
