Seasonal Ruth Parks and Maintenance Worker DEFINITION: Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled equipment operation, maintenance and custodial duties to keep county parks, community center and recreation areas orderly, clean, sanitary, safe, and secure, with all related systems and equipment operating effectively, which is physically demanding by nature. Work is performed under the supervision of the Town Council Chairperson and Vice Chairperson as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Position requires working flexible shifts and may on occasion work Saturdays or Sundays. Seasonal work will run for three to six months worth of work. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The duties listed below are examples of the work typically performed by an employee in this position. An employee may not be assigned all duties listed and may be assigned duties which are not listed belowOperates Park vehicles, trucks, tractors, riding and hand mowers, small equipment such as pumps and other specialized equipment and tools to maintain park grounds and facilities necessary for turf maintenance; performs basic daily maintenance of equipment such as cleaning, checking fluid levels, and lubricate as scheduled.Plants lawns, trees, flowers, shrubs, and grass; maintains lawns, landscaped areas, and grounds by mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, spraying, fertilizing, maintaining irrigations systems by performing minor maintenance.Performs routine janitorial work, keeping restrooms clean, cleaning sewers, collecting and disposing of refuse, replenishing supplies, and other duties as required. Inspects grounds for needed repairs, evaluates condition of turf with respect to pest and weed control and notifies supervisor.Maintain accurate records of daily work performed and materials used.Light building maintenance such as painting, installing blinds, etc. QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge ofIrrigation sprinkler systems and related tools and equipment.Park maintenance and landscaping principles, practices and equipment used in area of assignment.Knowledge of safe working procedures and the ability to identify hazards. Ability to Operate hand and power tools and small and heavy equipment used in performing assigned duties.Physically perform assigned duties.Prioritize and organize work assignments and carry out work independently.Follow oral and written instructions.Communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Special Requirements: Valid Nevada Driver License or the ability to obtain one. Experience and Training: The knowledge and ability listed above may be acquired through different types of education, training, and experience. An example of a typical way to acquire the qualifying knowledge and ability is listed below: High school diploma or G.E.D preferred.Prior experience in lawn, parks, or golf course care, or any combination of education and experience that provides the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical requirements described herein are representative of those that employees must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Strength, stamina, and dexterity to carry tools, materials, and parts weighing up to fifty (50) pounds and lift up to one hundred (100) pounds; perform repetitive motions including use of controls with hands and feet, and reach to perform repair tasks using tools and holding materials. Use of both legs to operate controls on equipment and vehicles. Manual dexterity to use tools and operate controls on equipment to complete fine tasks. Visual acuity sufficient to perform work in a variety of lighting conditions, including bright lift, low light, and low visibility conditions; depth perception sufficient to make repairs and adjustments to determine position of equipment components. Ability to hear changes in operation of motors and other equipment.
