The intern will utilize primary and secondary sources by performing market participant surveys and compiling data from multiple online platforms: county records, GIS mapping, Costar, LandVision, and others. The intern will also maintain our property database with comparables.The intern will support our Seniors Housing team, which focuses on the valuation of senior living communities across the country. The seniors housing industry includes five primary care types and multiple pricing structures, resulting in a steep but rewarding learning curve. This variety keeps the work dynamic and intellectually engaging.This role is best suited for individuals with a strong interest in real estate appraisal and a desire to build a long-term career in the appraisal industry. While we welcome applicants from a variety of academic backgrounds, those studying Real Estate, Business, or related fields tend to align most closely with the nature of the work.This role is a remote position; in person or hybrid may be offered, based on location. The intern will work up to 29 hours per week based on deal volume. The initial internship is one semester and may be extended based on periodic performance reviews. For further details on the Intern to Analyst Pipeline, please ask your recruiter.Intern Responsibilities and Duties· Learn and understand the market fundamentals of the team’s industry· Conduct market and property research through market participant surveys· Access, research, and compile data from online databases· Site and improvements research· Database entry of comparable properties· Comparison analysis of rent, fees, occupancy, and operations· Additional database, compilation, research, and organizational tasks as neededQualifications· Currently enrolled student at an accredited university (or graduate of a 4-year program)· Strong communication, written, and organizational skills· Ability to self-manage multiple projects at once· Ability to work independently and as a member of a team· Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to navigate spreadsheets efficiently, edit formatting/worksheets, and efficiently enter/manipulate data· Ability to work up to 29 hours per week during the school year· Relevant work experience in commercial real estate and/or appraisal is not requiredPreferred· Junior or Senior in a 4-year program, Master’s Candidate, or Graduate· Major or minor in Real Estate, Business, or Accounting. Other majors are welcome to apply, especially if they demonstrate a strong interest in real estate appraisal.· Interest, or curiosity, in pursuing a career in appraisal· Interest in advancing the appraisal industry through culture, technology, and innovation· Interest in multi-semester employment· Experience in conducting research through county records, GIS mapping, Costar, LandVision, NIC MAP, or other related industry softwareWhat you can expect from usAppraisal is both a science and an art.
