Volunteer and Advocacy Engagement Specialist
This position serves to strengthen the quality, consistency, and impact of volunteer-driven best interest advocacy for children experiencing foster care. This role works in collaboration with affiliates to advance high-quality advocacy practice, volunteer engagement, and collaborative family engagement. This position is a trusted partner and thought leader centered on coaching, learning and continuous improvement. This position leads new network staff training, network peer coordination, and staff coaching to strengthen volunteer onboarding, retention, connectedness, and innovation. This position reports to the Affiliate Services Director with joint coordination with Training, Advocacy, and Marketing leadership. Primary Responsibilities: Promote volunteer centered practice, meaningful engagement, and high-quality advocacy through training and one-on-one exchanges Provide advanced coaching and consultation to affiliate staff responsible for volunteer engagement and advocacy Support supervisory staff in strengthening reflective supervision for volunteers advocating in complex systems Coach staff and experienced volunteers on best-interest determinants, child and family engagement, courtroom advocacy, family and trauma-centered recommendations, and ethical boundaries and decision-making Specific Responsibilities: Lead the development, provision, and evaluation of statewide training in support of volunteer supervisory staff (advocacy coordinators) Manage consultation and support to volunteer supervisory staff, including facilitation of quality assurance activities, virtual peer support, and information exchange Partner with affiliates to implement quality assurance recommendations and co-create practice improvement plans Coordinate leadership development for advocacy coordinators and build and maintain culture of support for advocacy-related staff across the network (i.e. facilitate peer learning communities) Lead state volunteer engagement efforts and projects to support practice improvements and evolution in volunteer management practices Translate standards into practical tools, coaching guides, and supervisor resources Provide case consultation and coaching to network staff, including intensive supports and advocacy reviews, specific to case and volunteer management and advocacy efforts for children experiencing foster care Create volunteer engagement content for network communications and clearinghouse Participate in organization planning, innovation, and service provision and in the development and execution of initiatives and projects to improve volunteer engagement Participates in and/or leads special projects and other duties as assigned Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of direct or related experience, or equivalent Demonstrated experience in human services, volunteer management, nonprofit, child advocacy, social work, psychology, public administration, or related field Extensive knowledge and demonstrated success in supporting a robust, volunteer-centered culture Knowledge of best interest advocacy; child welfare policy, practice and initiatives; case management; family-centered practices Excellent oral and written communications skills Demonstrated leadership and coaching ability Ability to work independently and as a part of a small team supporting a large statewide network Ability and willingness to travel across Georgia for onsite affiliate support and multi-day trainings, meetings, and conferences Able to meet all screening and background checks Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook Preferred Qualifications Strong facilitation skills and ability to navigate sensitive practice conversations, experience training adult learners Experience in coaching and reflective supervision, systems thinking, and relationship-based influence Background in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, family centered practices Experience in direct roles involving CASA training, support, and courtroom advocacy Demonstrated ability to establish and cultivate relationships with a wide range of constituencies Travel: 30 – 40% travel, mostly in-state travel for single-day and multi-day visits, trips, statewide meetings and events.
