The role involves teaching English as a Second Language to diverse learners through well-crafted curricula, monitoring student progress, and adapting educational materials to enhance learning. Responsibilities also include assisting with compliance regarding federal and state regulations related to the institution’s Designated School Official (DSO) duties, ensuring adherence to SEVIS guidelines and maintaining accurate records for international students.ESL Instruction Deliver ESL instruction using provided curriculum and instructional materialsFacilitate required in-person learning activities, discussions, and assessmentsGrade assignments and evaluate student progress using established rubricsMaintain scheduled office hours for student support (on-campus)Respond to student inquiries in a timely mannerComplete required reporting and grading tasksMaintain student attendance and progress recordsParticipate in occasional faculty meetings or training as scheduledDesignated School Official (DSO) Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact for F-1 international students regarding visa complianceIssue Form I-20s to admitted international studentsManage and maintain accurate SEVIS records for all F-1 studentsReport student status changes to SEVIS (enrollment, program extensions, transfers, withdrawals, completions)Advise international students on maintaining lawful F-1 status, including full-time enrollment, travel signatures, reduced course load authorizations, and employment authorization (CPT/OPT)Maintain required DSO records and ensure audit readinessServe as institutional liaison with SEVP and Student and Exchange Visitor ProgramParticipate in required SEVIS training and stay current on federal regulationsSupport new student orientation for international studentsTotal responsibilities are expected to remain within approximately 20–30 hours per week (instruction + DSO duties).Required QualificationsDegree in TESOL, ESL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or a closely related field (Master's preferred; Bachelor's considered with strong experience)TESOL / TEFL certification (required)Prior ESL teaching experience (adult learners or higher education preferred)Ability to work in-person in North Miami, FLWillingness to complete SEVIS training and serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) (training can be provided; prior DSO experience is a plus but not required)Preferred QualificationsMaster's degree or higher in TESOL, Linguistics, Education, or related fieldPrior DSO / SEVIS experience (strongly preferred)Experience teaching ESL at the college/university level in the U.S.Familiarity with CIE or SACSCOC faculty qualification expectationsExperience with diverse, multilingual student populationsBilingual (English/Spanish) — strongly preferred for Miami student populationExperience with international student advising or student services
