Optical Transport Senior Engineer – Long Haul WaveLocation: Denver, CO (Preferred) or Mt. Laurel, NJWe are seeking an experienced Optical Transport Senior Engineer to support the design, engineering, provisioning, implementation, and troubleshooting of long-haul DWDM optical transport networks. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Nokia and/or Ciena optical transport platforms and be responsible for delivering reliable, production-ready wavelength services across a multi-vendor carrier-grade backbone network.Top 5 Must-Have SkillsHands-on experience with Nokia 1830 PSS, PSD, and PSI-M optical platformsStrong knowledge of DWDM, ROADM architectures, wavelength planning, OSNR, optical amplification, and power budgetsExperience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver, and RLS optical platformsProven expertise in end-to-end optical circuit provisioning and troubleshooting across multi-vendor environmentsExperience supporting long-haul/backbone optical transport networksKey Responsibilities:Wave & Circuit DesignPerform end-to-end feasibility studies and optical path design for backbone wavelength services.Engineer wavelength assignments, spectrum utilization, fixed-grid/flex-grid alignment, and regeneration requirements.Select appropriate transponders, muxponders, and line-side hardware based on service requirements.Validate optical performance against engineering standards before deployment.Produce detailed service design documentation including routing, ports, equipment, and intermediate sites.Multi-Platform Service ProvisioningProvision end-to-end wavelength services across Nokia and Ciena optical transport platforms.Configure services on Nokia 1830 PSS, PSD, PSI-M, and related optical transport equipment.Configure services on Ciena 6500, Waveserver, and RLS platforms.Manage seamless service transitions across multiple vendor environments.Execute provisioning using network management systems while maintaining accurate circuit documentation.End-to-End Troubleshooting & Customer Turn-UpValidate wavelength services through optical power verification, burn-in testing, and performance validation.Troubleshoot optical transport issues across metro, backbone, and vendor boundaries.Diagnose optical impairments including: optical power issues, OSNR, dispersion, span loss, timing issues, framing errors, service alarms.Coordinate with field operations, network operations, and vendor support teams to resolve complex issues.Deliver production-ready services and provide post-deployment support.Operational ExecutionPerform customer acceptance testing before production deployment.Maintain engineering documentation, implementation records, and as-built documentation.Follow established operational procedures and engineering best practices.Ensure high service quality while minimizing customer impact.Continuous ImprovementIdentify opportunities to automate engineering, provisioning, validation, and documentation processes.Contribute to Methods of Procedure (MOPs), implementation standards, and operational documentation.Improve service delivery efficiency through process enhancements.Required Qualifications:3–5 years of hands-on experience supporting DWDM and optical transport networks in carrier or large-scale service provider environments.Strong understanding of: DWDM, ROADM architectures, wavelength planning, optical amplification, regeneration, OSNR, dispersion, optical power budgets.Experience provisioning and troubleshooting optical transport equipment from major vendors.Strong ability to isolate and resolve end-to-end circuit issues across complex multi-vendor environments.Excellent documentation and communication skills.Experience collaborating with customers, operations teams, field engineers, and vendor support organizations.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Nokia 1830 PSS, PSD, PSI-M platforms.Experience with Ciena 6500, Waveserver, and RLS platforms.Experience supporting backbone or long-haul optical transport networks.Familiarity with optical network management and orchestration tools.Experience performing optical service turn-up, customer acceptance testing, and production implementations.All qualified applicants will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or protected veteran status.
