Job DescriptionThe Clinical Dietitian is responsible for the planning and implementation of nutrition therapy for patients. The Clinical Dietitian completes the evaluation and screening of the nutritional status of patients in accordance with established protocol. The Clinical Dietitian provides nutrition education and counseling for patients, families, and other healthcare staff.ResponsibilitiesResponsible for assessing patients nutritional needs, formulates a plan of care, and communicates a proposed plan to appropriate caregiversEvaluates and assesses nutrition status of patients, and screens patients for nutritional risk in accordance with established department protocols and Standards of CareCalculates nutritional requirements (calorie, protein, carbohydrate, lipids, vitamins, electrolytes, and fluid) and necessary diet restrictionsPlans and initiates medical nutrition therapy to patients including enteral and parenteral nutrition, if indicated by patient requirements and clinical protocolMonitors and evaluates effectiveness of care plan and adjusts as neededCommunicates proposed care plan to caregiversMaintains appropriate statistics in line with the department policyProvides nutritional counseling to patients/families/caregiversInstructs patients in diet principles and restrictions and documents pertinent informationEducates and counsels patients and families on nutritional issues, either individually or in groupsParticipates as a member of the health care teamCommunicates patient/family nutritional needs and recommended care plans to the appropriate health care providerRecords pertinent documentation to the patient's plan of care in accordance with policy and proceduresParticipates in discharge planning and ongoing care of patientsAssists in Care Coordination activitiesQualificationsRequired Qualifications:Education: Bachelor's degree or higher with an existing MS RD License, obtained prior to January of 2024Licensure: Must have and maintain a current MS Registered Dietitian (RD) licensePreferred Qualifications:Education: Master's degree required to be eligible to sit for exam and obtain a license as of January 2024. Registry eligible and successful completion of exam for license within six (6) months of hire.
