Product Development Engineer - Propulsion Systems Design Release

Come build what matters.Whether you are optimizing current gasoline engine solutions or pioneering systems for the next generation of hybrids, your work will have a direct, measurable impact on the air we breathe and the future of mobility.Why this role is different:Built-in Mentorship: You will work side-by-side with a Design Release Engineer partner and our Aftertreatment Technical Specialist, receiving dedicated coaching to master the complexities of the fieldOwnership: You will own the lifecycle of your components, from initial concept and "blank sheet" design to global productionCutting-Edge Tech: Engage with the latest in three-way catalysts, gasoline particulate filters, and emerging technologies designed to tackle future regulatory challengesResponsibilitiesWhat you'll do:Innovate & Define: Collaborate with technical specialists to architect "best-in-class" aftertreatment systems for gasoline and hybrid vehicle programsLead the Design: Establish engineering specifications, manage FMEAs & DVP, and navigate complex system trade-offs to ensure peak performance and durabilityDrive Supplier Excellence: Lead global supplier partnerships to optimize manufacturing processes for function, cost, weight, and quality. You'll even perform on-site audits to ensure excellence at the sourceCross-Functional Influence: Act as the product development bridge between Program Integration, Engine Calibration, Finance, and Certification teams to deliver high-stakes programs on time and on budgetShape the Future: Evaluate and pilot emerging technologies to stay ahead of evolving government regulationsQualificationsWe're looking for:The Foundation: A Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical EngineeringThe Experience: At least 2 years of experience in emissions development (we value your journey-internships, co-ops, and coursework count!)Problem Solvers: 2+ years of experience identifying and resolving complex emissions issues related to calibration, controls, or exhaust systemsThe Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check-in/check-out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford's PLM ecosystem.Even better if you have:Product Lifecycle Knowledge: Experience taking a program from initial concept through to high-volume productionSystems Thinking: A proven ability to analyze and solve sophisticated problems where the engine and emissions systems intersectCore Engine Expertise: A fundamental understanding of internal combustion engine function and thermodynamicsLogistics:This role offers the opportunity for limited travel (primarily within the US, with occasional international opportunities) to visit manufacturing sites and partner facilitiesJoin the Ford team and help us build a world where freedom of movement drives human progress.You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!As an established global company, we offer the benefit of choice.
