Structural Steel Shop Supervisor

Overview We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Shop Supervisor to lead our construction shop operations. In this pivotal role, you will oversee daily shop activities, coordinate project materials, supervise team members, and ensure that all work aligns with safety standards, quality expectations, and project deadlines. We are seeking a talented professional ready to help us innovate, lead and grow. Responsibilities Lead and supervise shop personnel ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and safely. Train, mentor, and evaluate shop employees. Coordinate daily shop activities and workflow scheduling to optimize productivity. Review blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication. Enforce strict adherence to OSHA regulations and other safety protocols; conduct regular safety meetings. Conduct quality control inspections on fabricated parts before delivery or installation. Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field crews to resolve fabrication issues. Manage inventory of materials, consumables, and supplies. Plan, allocate, and schedule work to meet project deadlines. Ensure proper set-up, operation, and maintenance of shop equipment and tools. Supervise the preparation of project documentation such as daily logs, incident reports, and inspection records. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by mentoring team members in construction site experience, safety practices, and technical skills. Experience Must have 7-10 years in the structural steel industry. Must have no less than 5 years experience as a Foreman or Supervisor with proven management experience in a construction environment with a focus on supervising teams in a shop setting. College degree preferred. Ability to read and interpret structural blueprints and shop drawings. Knowledge of OSHA standards related to construction safety; experience conducting safety audits and implementing corrective actions. Supervising experience that highlights leadership skills in managing diverse teams while maintaining high standards of quality control. Strong understanding within the scope of construction projects; adept at coordinating with clients, vendors, and subcontractors. Strong problem solving skills and attention to detail. Must be organized, computer literate, be able to lead and discipline employees, and have good customer service skills. Provide technical guidance on all metal fabrication processes, including layout, welding (GMAW, SMAW, FCAW), cutting, drilling, studs, cleaning and painting. Although this is not a field position, Candidates must be familiar with the structural steel installation process.
