THE COUNTY OF HAWAI'I FIRE COMMISSIONANNOUNCES THE VACANCY OF: FIRE CHIEFJob Summary: The Fire Chief is the administrative head of the fire department, responsible for performing firefighting, water safety, and emergency services to save lives and property from fires and emergencies on land, sea, and hazardous terrain. The Chief trains, equips, maintains, and supervises a force of firefighting personnel, monitors construction and occupancy standards, provides educational programs, and appoints a deputy fire chief and secretaries.ResponsibilitiesThe Fire Chief shall:Lead firefighting, water safety, and emergency services operations.Train, equip, maintain and supervise personnel.Monitor building construction and occupancy standards for fire prevention.Provide educational programs related to fire prevention and life safety.Appoint a deputy fire chief and private secretaries.Perform duties required by ordinance and the Hawai'i County Code.QualificationsCitizen of the United States and resident of the State of Hawai'i for at least one year immediately preceding appointment.Minimum five (5) years of training and experience in fire control, including at least three (3) years in a responsible administrative capacity.Combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (submit official transcript or proof of experience, including certifications or training).Valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or another comparable license at the time of hire.Foreign transcripts must be accompanied by an official credential evaluation report.Required DocumentsCover letterResumeApplication ProcessApplicants will undergo a selection interview by the County of Hawai'i Fire Commission.
