This role enhances safety, communication, and responsiveness during periods of reduced administrative staffing, while maintaining a visible and professional security presence. Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS In addition to general security duties, this position serves as the lead for evening and after-hours security operations. Responsibilities include: Serving as the primary on-site point of contact for security matters during evenings, nights, weekends, and College closures. Coordinating after-hours security response to incidents, alarms, building access issues, and safety concerns. Communicating significant incidents or operational issues to on-call administrators, Facilities, or other designated personnel in accordance with College procedures. Maintaining clear and timely after-hours incident logs and shift summaries. Supporting evening and weekend campus events by providing security coordination and situational awareness. Identifying recurring after-hours safety or security concerns and providing recommendations for improvement. Perform other duties as assigned, which may occasionally include light custodial or support tasks during emergencies. Build positive relationships with the campus community through community policing initiatives, providing directions, assistance, and information. Respond promptly to calls for service, alarms, medical emergencies, disturbances, and other incidents; act as a first responder until police, fire, or medical personnel arrive. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic security principles, crime prevention, and emergency response procedures. Strong observational skills and attention to detail Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact professionally with diverse populations. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure. Basic computer skills for report writing and using security software. Physical fitness: ability to walk/stand for extended periods, climb stairs, and respond quickly to incidents. Commitment to customer service and community-oriented policing. QualificationsMANDATORY:A high school diploma or equivalent is required. The successful applicant must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience working as a security officer or in a closely related security or public safety role. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform security duties independently, exercise sound judgment, and communicate effectively in routine and emergency situations. PREFERRED: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire). State security guard license or registration Successful completion of department-specific training (e.g., use of force, report writing, de-escalation, mental health). Supplemental InformationThis is a full-time, Classified, hourly position. Schedule will most likely be Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday (2:00 pm to 10:30 pm) but may vary depending on need.
