WACO Aircraft is the world’s only manufacturer of 1930’s era biplanes. Our planes are carefully and skillfully built by hand. Our Centennial business restores vintage WACO and JUNKERS aircraft. WACO Aircraft and JUNKERS Aircraft are small but growing companies with a long history of producing classic aircraft.
We’re seeking a highly motivated and skilled System Engineer to join our tight-knit engineering team. This role is crucial for ensuring the successful definition, integration, and verification of all aircraft systems, from initial concept through certification and production. The ideal candidate thrives in an environment where they can take ownership, work across disciplines, and directly impact the final product. As a System Engineer in aircraft manufacturing, you will be responsible for the design, integration, and maintenance of systems and subsystems within aircraft, ensuring they meet safety, performance, and regulatory requirements. Your role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve system-level functionality and reliability.
What you will do:
1. Collaborate with aircraft designers, avionics engineers, and other specialists to define system requirements and specifications.
2. Design and architect systems and subsystems, including avionics, flight control systems, communication systems, and navigation systems.
3. Integrate components and ensure interoperability between various systems.
4. Develop and execute test plans and procedures to validate the functionality, safety, and reliability of aircraft systems.
5. Conduct system-level testing, including functional testing, environmental testing, and performance testing.
6. Ensure compliance with aviation regulations, safety standards, and certification requirements (e.g. FAA)
7. Collaborate with regulatory authorities to obtain certifications for aircraft systems.
8. Create and maintain comprehensive system documentation, including system architecture diagrams, specifications, and compliance records.
9. Prepare reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and internal use.
10. Monitor the performance of aircraft systems and troubleshoot any issues or anomalies.
11. Perform system maintenance, updates, and upgrades as needed to ensure reliability.
12. Implement and manage configuration control processes for aircraft systems to track changes and ensure system integrity.
13. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to address technical challenges and meet project objectives
14. Stay up to date with aerospace industry advancements and emerging technologies to drive innovation and improve system performance.
15. Additional duties may be assigned by management or as necessary to meet the organization’s needs.
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on systems engineering.
3+ years’ experience in systems engineering within the aerospace or highreliability industry.
Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or relevant certifications (e.g., Systems Engineering Professional Certification) may be beneficial.
Proven experience in aircraft systems engineering, particularly in aircraft manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of aircraft systems, avionics, and relevant regulatory requirements.
Proficiency in systems engineering tools and methodologies.
Excellent problemsolving, analytical, and communication skills.
Detailoriented with a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Project management skills and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of aircraft modeling and simulation software is advantageous.
