Apply via Dice today!Job#: 3034053Job Description:Job Title: Sr Data Engineer/BA- SAS/ETL IIILocation: Cincinnati, OH (Onsite)Length: 6 monthsPay Range: $61-$70Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain complex Microsoft Access databases, including front-end and back-end split architecturesOptimize VBA code, queries, forms, and reports for performance, stability, and usabilityAnalyze and refactor legacy Access applications that support risk, regulatory, and lending-related workflowsIntegrate Access applications with enterprise data sources (e.g., DB2, SQL Server, Snowflake) using ODBC/OLE DB connectivityReverse-engineer existing solutions to identify:Critical data elementsEmbedded business logicData lineage and system dependenciesCollaborate with business partners across functions such as risk, finance, and underwriting to translate functional requirements into technical solutionsSupport data validation, reconciliation, and audit processes required for regulatory and compliance reportingDevelop and maintain technical documentation, including:Data modelsProcess flowsTransformation and business logicPartner with data engineering teams to plan and execute migrations from Access-based solutions to modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, dbt)Ensure adherence to enterprise data governance, security, and control frameworksRequired Qualifications5+ years of hands-on Microsoft Access development experienceStrong expertise in:VBA programming (including use of Windows APIs)Complex SQL (joins, aggregations, performance tuning)Access forms, reports, macros, and linked tablesProven experience managing Microsoft Access application lifecycle activities, including:Migration across Access versions and environments32-bit to 64-bit conversion of Access applications and VBA code (e.g., PtrSafe, API declarations, ActiveX compatibility)Resolution of broken references, deprecated components, and control issuesRegression testing and validation following upgradesMinimizing disruption to business-critical workflowsExperience working with large, complex legacy application ecosystemsStrong understanding of relational data modeling and normalization principlesHands-on experience integrating Access with enterprise databases (DB2, SQL Server, Snowflake, or similar platforms)Demonstrated ability in code analysis, reverse engineering, and technical documentationExperience working in regulated environments (e.g., financial services, insurance, highly governed industries)Strong stakeholder communication skills and demonstrated business analysis capabilityWhat Good Looks LikeAble to quickly stabilize complex and poorly documented Access environmentsThinks in terms of end-to-end data flows and data products-not just individual tools or applicationsEffectively balances short-term stabilization needs with long-term modernization strategyComfortable navigating tribal knowledge gaps and undocumented legacy logicDemonstrates strong ownership and accountability in high-risk, high-visibility environmentsEEO EmployerApex Systems is an equal opportunity employer.
