Head of Private Banking (PrB) Business Risk Management
Job DescriptionWe are seeking a Head of Private Banking (PrB) Business Risk Management to lead first-line risk oversight for our Retail Banking operations, with a focus on the Jersey platform.This is a strategic and highly visible leadership role where you will shape and embed the Operational Risk Framework (ORF), ensuring robust governance, effective controls, and strong regulatory compliance. You will act as a trusted partner to the business, balancing commercial priorities with sound risk management, while driving a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.This is an opportunity to influence at scale—engaging senior stakeholders, regulators, and cross-functional teams to strengthen risk practices and support the bank’s growth ambitions.Key ResponsibilitiesLead first-line operational risk management across Private and Retail Banking (Jersey and Falkland Islands)Implement and embed the Operational Risk Framework (ORF) and ensure alignment with Group policiesProvide oversight across key risk areas including CDD/KYC, AML, sanctions, fraud, cross-border activity, and client protectionAct as the primary risk advisor to the business, supporting strategic decision-makingOwn governance, ensuring risks are identified, assessed, documented, and reported in relevant forumsDrive robust risk controls, monitoring, and escalation processesLead the development of data analytics capabilities within Business Risk Management, using advanced analytics and data-driven insights to identify emerging risks, spot trends and root causes, and drive timely preventative action and escalation.Prepare and contribute to risk reporting packs (e.g. NRFR, CRC, ERC) and senior stakeholder updatesCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders including regulators, auditors, and risk teamsChampion business continuity coordination and critical process assessmentsBuild and maintain strong, trust-based relationships across teams and functionsLead, coach, and develop talent, fostering a high-performing and inclusive culturePromote the highest standards of ethics, conduct, and regulatory complianceSkills And QualificationsProven experience in Business Risk Management or Operational Risk within banking or financial servicesStrong understanding of Operational Risk Frameworks (ORF) and governance practicesExpertise in key risk domains including CDD/KYC, AML, sanctions, fraud risk, and regulatory complianceSolid knowledge of Retail and/or Private Banking products and processesExperience engaging with regulators, auditors, and senior stakeholdersStrong analytical mindset, with the ability to assess risk and drive effective mitigation strategiesExcellent communication skills, with the ability to influence and challenge constructivelyDemonstrated leadership capability, with experience building and developing teamsProven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, complex environmentExperience in governance, reporting, and risk frameworks across international or regional contextsAbout Standard CharteredWe're an international bank, nimble enough to act, big enough for impact.
